What the Military Issue Rifle Is in Each Country of the World (as shown on a world map)
Gizmodo ^ | Sept 25, 2013 | Casey Chan

Different strokes, different folks. Different guns, different countries. Here's a map showing the military issue rifle for each country in the world. You'll see familiar M4s, AK-47s, AK-74s, some M16s and tinkles of other weaponry. Judging by the map's choice of colors, it seems to group weapons that are of a similar family together by color.

To be sure, there are more guns used by the military than just these but this map gives a general gist of each military's standardization.

TOPICS: Military/Veterans
KEYWORDS: banglist; guncontrol; guns; secondamendment

I think the C7 is the Canadian version of the M4/M-16 made by Demarco of Canada.

Come to think of it, I think many Indian units as well as most in Nepal are still using the old Lee-Enfield rifle and the M1 Garand is still in use in Haiti.

I just read that the Indians are not too happy with their indigenous insas and are going to have submissions by several of the big companies such as Colt, Beretta, Sig Sauer, IMI and then will purchase a large number and license production of even more in India.

Diemaco/Colt Canada has provided the C7 rifle in three flavors to the Canadian Forces. The C7 is equivalent to the M16A2 but has the SAFE-SEMI-FULL selector of the M16A! and not the SAFE-SEMI-BURST of the M16A2.

The C7A1 dispenses with the carrying handle and replaces it with a Mil-Std-1913 rail for mounting various kinds of optics or sights. The C7A1 is equivalent to the M16A3.

The C7A2 is the C7A1 fitted with a four position telescoping the the M4A1 carbine.

The C8 is the carbine variant of the C7 and is very similar to the M4A1 carbine. Current models of C8 in-service are the C8A2 with 14.5-inch barrel; C8 CQB with either a 10 or 11.5-inch barrel; and C8 SFW with a 15.7-inch barrel. All C8 carbines have various Mil-Std-1913 rails in different locations. All have telescoping stocks.

I read a year or so back that the Canadian Rangers are going to replace their SMLE Enfields with .308 rifles. Not sure what kind of .308.

A Russian Sub happened to emerge close to where some of them were hunting and they peppered it with .303 bullets until it went under again.

Ah, should have remembered that...it's basically an updated version of the Stoner 63.

Hm...that reminds me the roleplaying game, "The Morrow Project", back in the '80s. The Stoner 63 was the standard rifle for the players. Those were the days...

Well, it's not as if Greenland has a wealth of enemies getting ready to storm its shores...in any case, the M96 is also a modern rifle made by Robinson Arms (as pointed out by another poster).

The INSAS (Indian Small Arms System) is a 5.56 NATO rifle based upon the Russian Kalashnikov, but with unique Indian design feature (example: it has an adjustable gas system similar to the FN FAL). The INSAS has had problems in-service and the Indians are looking to replace it in front line units. Here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/INSAS_rifle.

Morrow Project was a GREAT GAME!

There was a Kickstarter fundraiser at the beginning of the year which raised $35,000 to fund a 4th edition of The Morrow Project. It's going to be released in November.

The Canadian Rangers were supposed to get the AIA No. 4 Mk IV rifle in 7.62x51 NATO. This is a newly manufactured No. 4 Lee-Enfield in the NATO standard caliber. Here: http://www.marstar.ca/dynamic/product.jsp?productid=74823

I heard there were some procurement problems and introduction was delayed. The Rangers specified this newly built No. 4 rifle was to accept optics and other sighting devices.

The M4 is a carbine version of the M16 rifle. The barrel is cut back from 20 inches to 14.5 inches and the handguards are shortened accordingly. The M4 had the rear sight in the carrying handle like that of the M16A2. The M4A1 carbine has a quick attach/detach carrying handle. The safety/selector of the M4 has SAFE-SEMI-BURST (3-round) positions, while the M4A1 has SAFE-SEMI-AUTO positions. Here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M4_carbine
