I was out in the garden Monday and he just popped in my head for some reason. I was thinking of how good his books were and most of the movies made from them. Wow.

I’m sure Sergei Golovko is somewhere sipping a vodka with a tear running down his cheek.

TC was a great writer, a patriot who loved America, its values, its greatness and its military.

Thank you for the masterful stories and exceptional characters you have given us over these many years. Sir, you will be truly missed.

"Atention"..... taps.... "Parade rest".... "Dismissed".

I read someplace that he wouldn't sell the movies rights after politically correct Hollywood changed the Muslim terrorists in "Clear and Present Danger" to some supposed neo-Nazi cabal.

And he couldn't have been happy with the choices for 2 of the 3 Jack Ryans....Ben Affleck and Alec Baldwin..

He will be missed in the literary world.

Readers will miss Clancy; the "literary world" will not.

Clancy, you see, was a "conservative", a "militarist", a "wild-eyed right winger". Not to mention, a "wealthy capitalist pig".

The "literary world" was happy to see him go. His readers, however, will miss him dearly...

Spent many a “mid-watch” in CIC (when I was in the Fleet) figuring out how he was able to skirt the edge of classified procedures and technology, to write such entertaining novels back in the day...

We would discuss, along with some of the watch officers if we were put in the same situations, how would we respond...Our C.O. even got into it...

Tom Clancey’s input, and involvement with our armed services was a major moral booster, knowing we weren’t just perceived as going out making mud patties...

He will be missed...

Fair winds, and following seas sir!

We’ll see you on the flip side...

The problem is, Clancy wrote his books for Americans.

However, Hollywood makes movies for a global audience.

Holy cow!!! I loved Tom's early work. Over the years they got to where I didn't like them, but loved his early work. Red Storm Rising, Rainbow Six, Red Rabbit were my favs. Gonna miss you Tom. You supported the Troops and for that I thank you. I love W.E.B. Griffin also. He is in his 80s and not much longer to write. Brad Thor has become my favorite new author.

First Vince Flynn/Mitch Rapp and now Tom Clancy/Jack Ryan-John Clark-Max Moore. That leaves us Brad Thor/Scott Harvath. A sad year indeed. God speed Mr. Clancy. You will be sorely missed.

Clancy said that he was able to construct his scenarios from publicly available information, and the rest was conjecture. His accuracy made many uncomfortable, but they should really have been thinking that our enemies could have drawn the same conclusions.

When asked what would he would do if he were given classified information, Clancy said he would call the FBI.

That wasn't Clear and Present Danger. It was The Sum of All Fears.

Both of you are right on in your comments.

Clancy represented a world where Socialism was anathema. Therefore he had to be re-educated.

Incredible writer. When “Red Storm Rising” came out, I was in college. I remember I started reading it on my dorm bed at 9:30am and could not stop. When I finally stopped from hunger I looked at the clock. It was 4:15, and I had missed two classes. Simply mesmerizing, at the height of the Cold War. RIP, Mr. Clancy.
