Obamacare- What happens if I don't pay the penalty?
All that needs to be done is to adjust your W-4 exemptions so that your withholding matches your tax liability as close as possible. Won't take long for the "millennials" to figure this out.
Post script- I'm not enrolling and I'm not paying the penalty. F*** 'em.
Now it’s a fee? I thought the court ruled it a tax.
I'm still waiting for "Will Sheehan" to post the email he claims he got from the govt threatening this.
The “shared responsibility payment”? how ghey.
“Uncle Sam will get his.”
Obamacare- A Loophole?
Obama- An asshole.
Do not comply with Obamacare.
When people increase their deductions there will be a huge drop in the amount of taxes being sent to DC every quarter. That’s going to hit them hard. Then watch for a new IRS rule that you can only claim your actual deductions.
Then again, they can’t have been that stupid. The 30 hour rule. The 50 employees rule. The penalty with no means of enforcement. This is more than likely nothing more than a way to destroy this economy. And thus destroy the country.
The death panel will come for you.

They will just take away your exemptions. First they’ll take away your church tithing donation exemptions unless you’re Muslim and donate to a mosque. Then they’ll wok on the others. Golfing equipment will be deemed as tools of the trade and exempt of course.
I see this as a little unclear.
Many ‘targeted’ by this get EIC. Will their EIC be reduced by the penalty?
Every channel on your cable will only carry Michelle lecturing about eating healthy.
This has been talked about on FR, but not as much as it should be.
The tax is very difficult to collect as there is really no penalty for not doing so, and no means to force payment other than grabbing any refund that may be owed.
It was designed to be difficult to enforce. Once people figure out the ins and outs, the insurance companies will either hike premiums to the stratosphere or go BK or both which is probably the underlying objective.
i’m waiting for the first person who gets charged for not participating obamacare and/or having health insurance to file a discrimination lawsuit against the imperial president considering how his cronies received waivers while the rest of us serfs must submit...
that’s what i would do- if they come knocking at your door scream DISCRIMINATION!!!
>>Now its a fee? I thought the court ruled it a tax.<<
You may have something there!
Legislative Free Association....mmmmkay.
When faced with an uncompromising, lawless dictator, defiance and ridicule are the only options. Since the ACA is presently unfunded, also void as unconstitutional, it seems best to withhold any particular course of action at this time.
btw- if you are afraid they may withhold the penalty from tax refunds, just raise the amount of deductions in your pay check and pay less taxes throughout the year...
Tyrants will stop at NOTHING.
just make sure you are not due a refund though
No...drinking water as that will all you can afford.
If you work your taxes to where you get no refund, the fines just keep adding up, year after year, plus interest (3%). After a few years, you’re talking real money. Plus, you know they’ll tweak the law. Eventually they WILL get your money.
I can not get anyone to answer a simple question:
“Are the Obamacare “penalties” on a year by year basis? If you do not pay for 5 years, will they be able to garnish 5 year’s worth of penalty when you do get a refund? Does every year stand on its own?” Yes, actually, this is all part of the same question.
People below a certain income may not pay or file a 1040 or equivalent. How does the IRS get them?
I figured it would “di di mau, di di mau” with one round in the chamber.
Caution: A knowledgeable FReeper pointed out the other day that although the penalty in itself will not lead to liens or seizures, if you owe the IRS other monies and the IRS takes action against those funds that the total sum including the penalty likely will be involved in the action.
They won’t owe the penalty in the first place.
I know people who have qualified for public assistance JUST to get out of the Part D penalty.
If the IRS bankrupts someone over the penalty, and that person gets any form of public assistance thereafter, from the State, the penalty will go away.
Of course, at that point? They have forced you to “surrender” in many ways.
Don’t forget the other loophole, Christian healthcare co-ops. I haven’t figured out which one I’m joining yet, but that option avoids both the exchanges and the IRS penalty-tax. Not saying its a perfect solution for everyone, but it is a legal alternative that might appeal to Christians with incomes too high for subsidies and too low for the new, outrageously high premiums. Like me.
I think they just want to destroy the insurance companies so we are all stuck with healthinsurance.gov.
Yup. Make sure you don’t get a tax refund and they have nothing to take the fee from.
But can they ADD the fee on to any taxes owed if you under withold ??
The court ruled it would be constitutional if it was a tax, but not if it's a fee. If it's a tax, then I don't think they can arbitrarily decide who does or doesn't have to pay it, or delay implementing it.
They're wanting to claim it's a tax to get it to pass constitutional muster, and then administer it like it's a fee once it's in effect.
This is going to get messy.
That ... is a true twilight zone nightmare.
I am exempt from zero-care since I am a member of a healthcare sharing ministry. It’s not insurance so it may not be for everyone but so far it’s been ok for us.
Due to the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1980 each agency and each dept. therein is required to choose just one word to reference it.
My thoughts are that the Dems want to run Hillary in 2016 and she will say “Vote for me and I will make sure you have single payer and not so high premiums.” By then, the people will be ready to vote in anyone who an straighten out the mess and they will remember the good times when Bill was in charge. This issue will be number 1 by then and many of the poor will have defaulted on their payments. I fully believe that there are enough low info voters to vote her into office.
Cool. Which one did you join (if I may ask), and why did you choose it? I ask because I am still trying to decide.
yup.. the moment they start garnishing wages... is the moment the shivs come out
that’s when the real fun will begin
time to buy some popcorn stock
I had read here a couple weeks back, that the IRS will have the power to seize assets from your bank account, or garnish wages as they see fit.
Someone will know the article, I’ve had a few too many Single Malt Scotches to bother looking this stuff up.
God bless you. This is such a bleeping nightmare.
Check out the Healthcare.gov Facebook page. Comments are running 100-1 against. I'm hopeful about the shutdown.
I think someone should sue them and force them to go through every printed or on-line reference and change every occurrence of “fee or penalty” to “tax” before they can continue to operate. If this was perpetuated by a commercial company, I can guarantee the FTC would be so far down their throats that they would be seeing light through the butt hole.
Making arrangements that include offshore treatment will be the cheaper option and of better quality than what is in prospect inside the US. The best of English and more and more of the Canadian is practiced in places like India and Thailand. Many good American doctors will set up shop in the Caribbean where a number of small countries have changed their tax laws to attract them. Combine that surgery with a stay in a nice hotel in the Caribbean sun with a cheaper overall price. International medical insurance is already available and will proliferate for the younger set.
and a lot of those who are commenting in favor of it are pid shills
The IRS confiscates it
Involuntary “euthanasia” is the logical and probably inevitable extension of obamacare. NSA files will be influential in that.
They will close loopholes faster than you can close your (open for confiscation) bank account. Bank on it. Period.
” I thought the court ruled it a tax.”
They did indeed
I am afraid you are right. :-(
Hillary is a monster at least equal to zero.
