It may seem counterintuitive that a TV show about a meth cook could have a conservative theme, much less a Christian one, but that's because people think Christian movies are supposed to have camels -- or a "Little House on the Prairie" cast. READ THE BIBLE! It's chockablock with gore, incest, jealousy, murder, love and hate.
Because the Bible tells the truth, the lessons are eternal -- which also marks the difference between great literature and passing amusements. Recall that even Jesus usually made his points with stories.
The sweet, soulful druggie on "Breaking Bad," Jesse Pinkman, illustrates -- heartbreakingly -- the monumental importance of the cross.

In her article Ann describes a scene where Walt watches Jane choke to death. My experience was different than her description. BB is rerun often, and I have seen that episode twice more, but I have skipped that scene both times. The horror of what Walt is becoming as he watches her die is too much. I have never seen anything like it, and hope I never do again. I read somewhere that Brian Cranston broke down after filming it. I hope so.

I think she’s confusing an allegory with a parable.
I guess I’m also not a fan of gruesome. Another reason I won’t be watching.
My wife comes home from teaching 3rd grade in the inner city with horror stories of the kids lives destroyed by welfarism and drugs. I hear directly about the kids sexually abused by drug crazed “uncles”, who poop their pants in class and don’t even realize it because they’re so stressed out.
Parents who are on SSD because “I’m too stupid to hold down a job.”
I don’t need anything more depressing in my life. Y’all can go watch that. I’ll skip it.
And how many people trapped in a self-destructive homosexual lifestyle tell themselves--and are told by the whole world--the exact same thing?
In defense of Walter White (in this instance), Jane had threatened to blackmail him for the rest of his life.

I will concede it was a moral dilemma. How much would you let someone make your life miserable before you let her or him die because of their own bad choices?

it isn’t. it’s devoid of anything religious. walt wasn’t religious. the famiy wasn’t. the extended family wasn’t religious. this is the whole reason why breaking bad goes the way it does.
to me breaking bad shows what happens when people, faced with crises, who don’t have God, and follow their own moral system, attempt to deal with their problems. the unthinkable in prior times now becomes a viable option, and they are more than willing to rationalize it away. only when it’s all about to end do we finally get someone to stop running away from their mess and stop rationalizing their bad decisions away. but not having God, they die without forgiveness, without genuinely being sorry for what they’ve done. they are sorry they didn’t pull it off, they are sorry it’s ending badly for them. sorry they got certain people killed, sorry they won’t be with their family. they aren’t sorry for all the junkies they hate who buy their product, and their lives that they’ve destroyed, the families thgey’ve screwed up from their product. they are sorry they got caught. not repentant.
I think that is the entire point of the show. We are watching a man lose his soul; and, that is not pretty and it should be unsettling.
I never was interested in watching this show because of the subject matter. But, being bored during the summer, and having Netflix, hubby and I decided to try it and, we never looked back. We took the ride, and it was difficult and intense; but, the writing, acting (Bryan Cranston is a great actor!), the setting of New Mexico; all of it added up to a unique blend and an intense experience.
At the end, he (as the song they played said) got what he deserved. And, he tried to atone as much as possible for what he had done; but, the damage was done. His very honest admission to his wife that he did it because "he liked it" is a life lesson for us all. It is easy to go to the dark side; but, it really is not worth it. Losing his family, which is why he said he got into it in the first place, was not worth the money or power.
