From Historic City News here in St Augustine, FL, I learned that about 40 people, many of them kids, apparently tried to get into the Castillo de San Marcos last weekend. The rangers chased them, they were caught, but in the end they weren’t arrested simply because nobody, rangers or local police, wants to arrest citizens who want to visit their parks.
Obama is crazy to do this, and I think he’s unleashed a level of anger in this country that he had no idea existed. He’s not an American, so he doesn’t know how dedicated Americans are to their parks and historic sites.

Impact on parks due to government shutdown:
All 401 national parks all across the country will be closed affecting as many as 715,000 national park visitors each day the government remains shutdown.
More than 21,000 national park staff members will be furloughed meaning critical resource management, including important scientific monitoring to protect endangered species, will not happen.
Due to closures, planned field trips will be cancelled denying teachers and students across the country access to our nation’s largest open classrooms.
For the most entertainment, be sure to include a few things with your walk in your national park - Please remember to bring at least one large folded piece of paper. Take some time to include text on the paper, such as ‘THIS IS OUR LAND’ ‘BARRY DIDN’T BUILD THIS’ ‘OUR NATION ISN’T CLOSED WHILE YOU’RE ON PAID VACATION’
IF you are stopped, which really, you have to pretty much walk up to a ranger to get stopped, be sure to listen to their spiel. Ask when they published the changes to the park hours, if they complied with the required 45 day public notice. If they say they didn’t, that it is shut down for an emergency, then ask for the emergency to be identified, noting that very little exemptions exist in federal code to be declared an emergency.
And when they pull out the ticket book, pull out your sign, and clearly state that you are refusing to comply with the closure as you are protesting the taking of public land by public employees as a form of punishment and gamesmanship. You are explicitly exercising your first amendment rights of petitioning the government for redress of grievances.
And hey, maybe you get cited, maybe they just figure you’re WAY too much trouble. Be sure to sign the ticket, as failure to sign the ticket actually gives them lawful reason to arrest you, whereas the whole house of cards about national park closures depends on no one asking ‘where in the law do you find the authorization to close this park?’
These Parks are our Tiananmen Square. Now the question is; does the National Park Service really want too play the role of the Chinese Army?
Had the time of a lifetime with my boy in Jellystone a few weeks back. First ones in the park and had an epic day. To think someone is deprived of that experience makes me...very angry.

Me, too. Our entire family went to Tetons and Yellowstone two years ago for my 60th birthday. Reading today about the international visitors who were evicted and escorted out of the park, Old Faithful barrycaded off, their busses not being allowed to stop at a PRIVATE ranch to use their facilities because it is on “federal” land made me sick. The park threatened the private ranch owner with legal action if he allowed the bus to stop. The poor elderly folks from Japan thought they were going to jail and many said they would never visit the US again.
Sick, sick, sick. Damned Alinsky, communist agitator tactics used against us in our OWN country by the so-called “president.” Sick.
I wonder how many high school or even college kids could tell you who those two men are in that picture. I’m guessing maybe 2% at most. On a good day.
You might be onto something here. An occupy movement by patriots in the National Parks. Sounds feasible. (Plus it's fun to steal lib ideas...they hate that.)

The more, the merrier! If huge numbers of people start to peacefully use parks and other Federal lands normally open to the public, it will be hard to ignore inside the beltway.
