One brewer claims shutdown will cost him $8,000 a month

As the US government shutdown enters its ninth day the closure is threatening to leave America’s craft brewers nursing a serious hangover. While stores across the country will continue to stock a range of beers and ales on their shelves, the shutdown has closed an obscure agency, which quietly approves new breweries, recipes and labels.

Its closure could halt the rapidly growing craft industry in its tracks, creating huge delays for customers who expect a constant supply of inventive and seasonal beers.

Well we better accept commiecare so that one brewer won’t lose $8000 a month

just proceed without the “govt approval” the only reason they want to “approve” is so they know the brewer exists and can tax it

Better question is why wait? Screw the Feds, if they aren’t open then they can’t enforce right? These petty little tryants need to start being left handcuffed around electric poles, with their pants pulled down.

The parks are officially closed due to lack of manpower, yet they have plenty of manpower to enforce the closure.

You can bet that any brewer who tries it will be hit with massive fines, either immediately or once the shutdown lifts.

Eh. I usually drink Busch anyway because life is too long for expensive beer all the time, especially in the volume I consume. I’m a trained professional, don’t try this at home.

This should only affect new brews, not the brews that have already been licensed and had their labels approved, right?

Maybe it’s time to take another foray into home brewing.

This puts a cramp in my plans with my proposed nano brewery but I have plenty of beer on tap at home. If I am a little inconvenienced by this in order to try and save this country, then so be it.

*pssst*

a govt license doesn’t make the beer... it’s just a stamp saying ‘i’ve paid the baksheesh’

I’m with you, Brother, and I cook it myself instead of turning that over to my very expensive, taxpayer provided “FCOTUS” (First Chef of the United States). Thank goodness that’s still legal.
