Glenn Beck Reveals a Story He Hasn’t Been Able to Share for Over a Year (GOPe coup)
The Blaze ^ | Oct. 9, 2013 8:21pm | Erica Ritz

Posted on 10/10/2013 6:10:47 AM PDT by The_Victor

Glenn Beck shared a story with viewers on Wednesday that he’s been keeping close to the vest since before the 2012 election, explaining that he’s been waiting for the right time to say what exactly happened, and what it means for the country.

It all began, Beck said, in what he believes was late August when he was getting ready to do a number of events with FreedomWorks.

“It’s about 4:00 in the afternoon and I get a call from the president of FreedomWorks, Matt Kibbe, and I can hear the distress in his voice,” Beck said. “[Kibbe said], ‘Glenn, I’ve just been escorted out of my office by armed guards and told not to come back.’”

Kibbe added that he wasn’t the only one forcefully escorted out, and that they had been hijacked, so to speak, by the “old guard” GOP establishment.

“There was a coup during the election, and it was powerful,” Beck said. “They were trying to get rid of the libertarian, Tea Party-minded power players, and first and foremost on that hit list was Matt Kibbe and his allies. They didn’t like the fact that FreedomWorks was cleaning house in the GOP…that they were targeting people like Orrin Hatch. It didn’t sit well with the Karl Roves of the GOP world…”

Beck said that shortly thereafter he got a call from the man inside FreedomWorks who had “ordered the hit,” who explained how the whole situation was “really good” because now he was the face of FreedomWorks and people trust him.

“His face never saw the light of day on my program,” Beck said. “I hung up the phone with him, the next day I called board members of FreedomWorks…and we said we support the libertarian voice, and if you allow this coup to sit, we’re done and we’ll expose it.”

“It wasn’t even a week later the board took a vote and decided to reinstate Matt Kibbe as president,” Beck said. “Put in the half of the staff – all the libertarians that had been escorted out – reinstated all of them, and then escorted the leader of this coup and his cronies out the door for good.”

Beck spoke about the ramifications of the “coup” for the 2012 election, and said now is the right time to share the story because “the exact same thing – the same people really – are doing this now in the GOP.”

“Anyone in Congress or the Senate who associates with FreedomWorks, the Senate Conservatives Fund, the Tea Party, anybody, anybody is being targeted by the same class of establishment Republican progressives,” Beck said. “They do not like it when you organize. They do not like it when you choose the candidates that you actually want.”

Beck said it’s the same reason why lawmakers are not truly pursuing the IRS’ targeting of small government groups, because progressives on both sides “want that tool in place…to come after people like you.”

“This has never been about left and right,” Beck said. “This is about freedom, freedom, and tyranny.”

Beck has said multiple times that he has no desire to see a third party, and reminded how the Republican Party began.

“Before the GOP was in existence, it was a two party system – the Democrats and the Whigs,” Beck said, noting that many Whigs and a fair number of Democrats were frustrated that both parties were offering much of the same.

“Charles Sumner was one of the most hated people by the Whigs and the Democrats…so much that he was literally beaten within an inch of his life on the House floor because no one stepped in to stop it,” Beck continued. “Within four years, Sumner wasn’t the most hated anymore — he was the most beloved man in the Republican Party, and the Whigs were extinct. I’m telling you that’s what’s coming if we stand.”

Seriously? That awareness has gone so far overboard with some on this forum that they refuse to acknowledge good news when it happens.....

Not at all surprising. I recognized the Alinsky tactics being used within the GOP at the time. Anger over delegates being shut out was met with claims that they were just Ron Paul voters and unworthy of respect even though a great many of us were anything but Ron Paul voters.

This shocking story alone was worth the price of TheBlaze subscription this month. The Cruz interview than immediately followed it was also good. The fact that Beck did NOT mention names shows that even he has a certain level of fear of certain powerful individuals within the GOPe.

I really can go on,but then I’d sound like Beck.

True - but that presumes there are two sides, rather than a single, monolithic, progressive political entity with a couple of fake factions to keep the rubes distracted.

Wait just a minute. Beck wants us to believe that “armed guards” showed up on private property and forcibly removed a man from his office? Technically, that would be an armed invasion and a hostage taking situation.
We are further asked to believe that these “armed guards” were working for the Rove wing of the Republican party.
I say BS. Such a removal would be criminal activity. The Republican party would have no authority to remove anyone from a private office of any group. Simply removing a man from his office would not constitute his removal from his position as the head of a political action committee either, nor would Rove have the authority to impose a different leader on a group he did not personally belong to. I used to like Beck but this is too far fetched even for him. I’m not buying it.

OLD NEWS:

ABC News, December 29, 2012:

“The Washington Post this week detailed what it called a coup Armey tried to pull off at FreedomWorks in September with the help of gun carrying aide after his relationship with FreedomWorks’ president, Matt Kibbe, became hostile.

While Armey disputes the description of using an armed aide to conduct a coup, he admits that he agreed to leave FreedomWorks as part of a deal with Richard Stephenson, president of the for-profit Cancer Treatment Centers of America.”

Disclaimer: I am a full price subscriber on TheBlaze.

Yet, Glenn is driving me to send him a “defund TheBlaze” email. The delivery of the content via streaming is hit or miss - mostly miss with the spinning circles.

Secondly, Glenn is almost a parody of Art Bell with all of his allegations that seem to evaporate within a day or two. Remember when he was all hung up over a memo leaked by an operative in Harry Reid’s office about Boehner wanting a secret meeting last June. Gnashing teeth, hair on fire, raving “defund the GOP” over a leaked memo from a political operative?

I would like to see a focus on 3-5 solid winning issues and less circular firing squad talk. We get it that some GOP are just Democrat-lite. Thankfully, Rush doesn’t get gamed like Beck on every little teapot tempest.

Beck hits a good point I’ve been making for a while. There’s a transformational shift underway in US politics. Away from the traditional understanding of Liberal vs Conservative to somthing more along the lines of statist vs libertarian.

(libertarian being the small l variety, what could aldo be called the classical liberalism advocated by the Founders and Framers)

Here is a Washington Post article on the ouster of Armey.

FreedomWorks tea party group nearly falls apart in fight between old and new guard

The article is a year old. I guess maybe Beck is just giving his perspective on the clash. The story confirms the armed escort, but it is puzzling as to how Armey was allowed to do that.

Ok, so if the story is public knowledge and a year old, why did Beck feel the need to keep it “close to the vest since before the 2012 election,” why did he wait “for the right time to say what exactly happened,” and why did he give us an incomplete version when he finally did?

You're asking the wrong person. Beck is the only one who can answer that. I was reading over at the Blaze, and came across something that I had not heard about. So I re-posted it here. Maybe he's just trying to spin an old story into gold, I don't know.

It just seems fishy to me, almost like he's trying to stir something up, maybe to get his listeners to call Goldline (as a previous poster mentioned).

That wasn't his scoop. That was on Drudge and all over FR for days. He just framed it as proof that the GOPe needed to be stopped. He's kind of like a big child. I have met him. He really gets upset about this stuff. I agree with your criticism. I only tune in for his radio show and the 5pm "news" thing, but turn it off before tht godawful circle of morons come on. Pat and Stu and useless. The On The Record show is good but overhyped and uses far to much annoying MTV-style chop/strobe editing. Haven't seen any of the gun stuff. I am on my first month after a month free. We shall see if it goes on. Glenn is trying a bit too hard to push his "network" too far too fast, and needs to focus instead on fewer, more solid programs.

If you’ve used a groups charter to hijack it and have official control, you can remove someone from the offices. Dick Armey was part of the group because Freedomworks believed he believed in the same goals. Armey’s goal was instead have a group meant to whip up support for the GOP elite.

It’s a good lesson in watching who you give power to.

Correct, and that is why we see so much antagonism aimed at all of the anti-statists, whether they are Sarah Palin, Sen. Cruz, Sen. Paul, or even the big L libertarians like Ron Paul himself.

There are always a range of ideas among people who have similar ideas about one issue, in this case being against an ever increasing role for the government in society. To the leftists however they all must be ridiculed and rendered irrelevant. That's one reason you see so many attacks against the ideas of freedom loving conservatives and small l libertarians, and attempts to associate them with other political ideas held by some folks who also oppose an ever growing intrusive federal government.

There is no such thing as big l little l libertarianism, that is yet another lie created by social leftists as another approach to defeating conservatism, change the language.

Just ask Beck who embraced gay marriage and every poll that measures libertarianism, they all recognize that libertarianism is social liberalism.
