All these places are nice right now but they can be taken over at any time, they can suffer unrest and economic downturns. Everyone bailing from our country right now like a bunch of cowardly RATS will be free for a while but that won’t last.
America is the last stand, if people want to be free, taking America back is the only way to save ourselves, our kids and grandkids.
There won’t even be dust of our dust left in 20105.
Yeah, that got me too...but I bet she was pretty in her younger days....too bad she’s a wanna be dictator.
You all are looking at unstable tropical paradises lol.
Wyoming or Montana.
Nowhere in this article did I see an explanation of gun rights in these various countries...until then...
We have thought about Panama too. We visited last winter to check it out. I liked it but didn't fall in love.
Honestly, I would like to go to an island in Croatia somewhere. Sure, they still have the big, invasive government (45% tax) but out on those islands --life is pure magic. No one thinks about or pays any attention to the government. Cash and barter is a way of life. Fresh olive oil, homemade wine, fresh fish, garden grown veggies and good bread. What more do you need?
How? They PI Muslims don’t have the numbers. The Indonesians can’t walk there.
Other than that, Belize is a lovely tourist destination.
Being a veteran in TX has a big advantage, you can get loans through the TX Vets Land Board.
To say nothing of the fact that some of the places that people talk about escaping to, including, as a particular example the Phillipines, suffer from far worse corruption than the US even now - their corruption is often simply better concealed. Furthermore, escaping to the Philippines, Costa Rica, Iceland, Argentina or New Zealand or Belize is only gonna be a realistic option for art most a tiny fraction of Americans. This is in addition to what Mr Jeeves pointed out above, Which is why this kind of talk is not exactly a responsible way of thinking.
Belize looked nice enough from my brief visit (less than a day, but I did ride across the country). There are some religious missionary (I think German or almost Amish) communities. Also I think the ChiComs built them a drawbridge. I don’t know how much they are investing there.
There were armed guards on the border with Guatemala and I think heard there can be border skirmishes.
It really depends on how much money you have. Belize and Costa Rica both have lots to offer for Americans with more retirement income. Ecuador, Panama and Colombia are excellent for people with smaller IRAs who may be depending upon Social Security checks to get by. The Phillipines is now one of the best values in the world for American retirees but it’s also very far away and hard to get to. Same thing with Thailand. Personally I’m looking into Ecuador because I know people already living there who do very well on less than $1000/month total expenses. That is food, housing, utilities, medical expenses and dining out/recreation money. If things don’t start improving here VERY quickly I’ll probably be there sometime in 2014.
I agree with you actually, but I think winning at the ballot box is unlikely....I hate to even think about what really needs to be done...I am a civil war buff and the thought of that happening again with the modern weaponry we have now is a sobering thought....
Bingo....good catch...I won’t go anywhere I can’t take mine with me.
it’s frightening. But the US is still the freest, and greatest place on earth. The redstates are GREAT places to live. (The coasts and the squalid blue urban democrat cesspools, not so much). The only thing bad about redstate living is the fear of the encroaching blues. Then what about all of our extended families and the communities we are building? That is part of our job. So unless we pack up EVERYONE, then, really, going to a third world country is not a conservative solution.
So I agree entirely. Though it is sobering to know that there’s nowhere else to go. Alas.
I fell in love with Kanab UT this summer while on vacation.
Yup, people can run off to whichever paradise they think will be better when the SHTF, but I intend to remain here and go out in a blaze of glory.
That is one thing that MArk Steyn got dead right. If American can’t keep its traditions and liberties alive, those other above nations have no chance.
And as for militant jihadist takeover of the Philippines, well they probably would not overtake the whole nation but they could conceivable overtake large portions of it. And the Philippines still has the usual issues with corruption and lack of freedom which, at the moment, expats are shielded from. But if Americans en mass wanted to abandon ship to the Philippines, that would change very quickly. Because American expats are there in such small numbers, they get a rosy and very unrealistic view of it.
I’m for staying put in the US, personally.
That said: if we are going to become Europe, then....it does make sense just to, well, go to Europe.
At least there’s the scenery, the variety, the museums, the history and culture.
Paris, London, Vienna, all of Switzerland....these are amazing places.
Yes, they are socialist hellholes. But at least they have architecture, and location, and museums.....
Sigh.
