Stand Your Ground laws Challenged at the UN
American Thinker ^ | 10/12/2013 | Ben Cohen

Posted on 10/12/2013 7:31:35 AM PDT by rktman

This month, the United Nation's Committee on Human Rights (CHR) will be considering a report submitted by the Dream Defenders, the NAACP, and the Community Justice Project of Florida Legal Services. Dream Defender Ahmad Abuznaid will travel to Geneva to meet with the CHR. The report alleges that the U.S. is in violation of its treaty obligations under the "International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights," (ICCPR). Specifically, stand your ground laws, (SYG), violate America's obligation to protect the lives of its citizens. They also allege that juries apply these laws in a racially discriminatory fashion, although this doesn't appear to be the formal charge levied against the United States.

The reports states, "These laws make it easier for people to murder other human beings and without facing legal consequences. They essentially eviscerate any deterrent to gun related homicides, and provide a road map to getting out of jail with blanket immunity."

Bring it on asshats. We don't work to un rules and regs despite what the new world order clowns would like you to think. When are we gonna kick these clowns out of the US? Oh, and thanks to the rockyfellers for donating the land. Better place for their headquarters would be in Dumbassistan. We are still the freest country in the world though it sure doesn't seem like it at times.

Getting harder and harder to tell if things are satire or not.

Even though the UN campus is an excellent example of mid-20th century architecture, I ay throw the bums out and level the place. Then sell the site to Donald Trump for $1 and let him negotiate with the Mohawks and the NFL to build a casino and stadium in it’s place so we can bring the Jets and Giants back to NYC where they belong!

Well heck yeah! Pretty sure we’re carrying the majority of the weight for folks who hate the crap out of us. I may be wrong but one dollar of support is too much in my book. If they want some money, let ‘em have a bake sale. Or maybe a fire sale when they decide to move across the pond. Whose brilliant idea was it the hq them in nyc anyway? LOL!

Reagan didn’t do it and none of his successors had any intention to do so and don’t expect it to happen, ever.

Never understood America’s thrill of having these idiots, who hate us, housed on our shores.

Sheesh, I’m sure that countries like Bangladesh, Yemen and Somalia would love to have them.

They don't have a leg to stand on...

Back during the Bush administration, Texas scheduled the execution of two Mexican Nationals. Mexico appealed to the UN on the grounds that the execution violated some treaty. The UN ruled in Mexico's favor and ordered Texas to halt the execution. Texas ignored them, so Mexico went to federal court to force Texas to obey the UN order. It went all the way to the Supreme Court and the Supremes ruled that UN Treaties only applied to the federal government and the individual states were free to do as they please.

It went all the way to the Supreme Court and the Supremes ruled that UN Treaties only applied to the federal government and the individual states were free to do as they please.

As I recall, the issue in this case was that the treaty requires law enforcement, when arresting a foreign national, to alert the appropriate consulate.

However, these jerks carried US ID and never confessed to being Mexican nationals -- so Texas law enforcement had no reason to contact the Mexican consul.

Agreed,so bad that I think It should be banned on this site.

1.In the interest of maintaining accurate communication between citizens.

2.To inhibit its use in preparing the mass for future social alterations.

3.To take some fuel off the fire of self fulfilling prophecy.

In the last few yrs. Ive seen so much satire become reality its disconcerting.

Oh well

Specifically, stand your ground laws, (SYG), violate America's obligation to protect the lives of its citizens.

Factually correct, completely wrong interpretation. So-called "stand your ground" laws help protect our citizens. Without SYG, victims and potential victims are required to retreat in the face of danger. Often, in fact in virtually every scenario imaginable, this increases the danger and risk to the victim.

So yes, while SYG does place the criminal at additional risk in the confrontation, there is a much better solution than requiring victims to retreat. How about we work on stopping the entire confrontation before it starts by oh, I don't know, addressing the person or persons instigating it? Yeah, lets go after criminals, not victims. The UN, what a bunch of agenda-driven idiots.

In other news, the German government of Adolf Hitler has denounced America’s mistreatment of Jews, and the Soviet leader Joseph Stalin has declared that America’s prisons are inhumane.
