Protective pit bull scares off coyotes and saves cat friend

Sherree Lewis, who cares for her son's dog, Jack, is crediting the dog with saving the family cat, named "Kitty."

Kitty nearly used up all of her nine lives in one fell swoop when two coyotes decided that she looked like their next meal.

Lewis described the frightening scene:

“ As I was walking to the door, I could see the coyotes over here," “ "One had her by the neck and the other had her by the tail,”

Jack, seeing his feline friend in danger, quickly sprang into action, racing out of the house and after the attacking coyotes.

Jack's quick action prompted the coyotes to drop Kitty and run.

The violent shaking left the cat with brain swelling and a broken tooth, but she is expected to survive.

Does have big head. Can’t see it too well because of the angle. I’ve known darling pit bulls and darling Dobies. Yay for good big dogs!!!

Cats go outside, I’m not having litter boxes etc inside. They have claws, they can climb. Although I always have dogs too, I haven’t had any problems with coyotes that’s the dogs didn’t finish before I could even begin to look for a firearm.

Cats don’t belong outside, if a stray comes to my area I will live trap it and send it to the local shelter. Coyotes are indigenous wildlife that do belong.

You have your opinions, I have mine. They come in the house, but they go outside for all their business. Hard to catch mice outside when the cat is inside.

Damn.

Some people, eh?

Odin is the enforcer for the whole house, inside and out.

Regardless of what is upsetting one of 'his' girls, whether it be an external threat or sibling rivalry, he charges in to stop it.

And Gypsy is the "uber mom" who sets him straight when he gets too rough with Djinni or Seven.

[and Halla, before]

Some dogs do this kind of thing naturally and habitually.

And it is a "pit type" dog.

Oddly enough;

The name Cynic derives from Ancient Greek κυνικός (kynikos), meaning "dog-like", and κύων (kyôn), meaning "dog" (genitive: kynos).

One explanation offered in ancient times for why the Cynics were called dogs was because the first Cynic, Antisthenes, taught in the Cynosarges gymnasium at Athens.

The word Cynosarges means the place of the white dog.

It seems certain, however, that the word dog was also thrown at the first Cynics as an insult for their shameless rejection of conventional manners, and their decision to live on the streets.

Diogenes, in particular, was referred to as the Dog, a distinction he seems to have revelled in, stating that "other dogs bite their enemies, I bite my friends to save them."

Ironic.

:)

My late JRT would break up squabbles between the cats if she thought they were getting too intense. She kept an orderly house.
