A cure for marijuana abuse could be on the horizon thanks to a new finding.

Researchers found that increasing the levels of a naturally-occurring acid in the brain could stop addicts who are trying to give up from relapsing.

The scientists discovered that kynurenic acid reduces the kick monkeys and rats get from THC, the active ingredient in marijuana. …

Kynurenic acid, which can be produced from bananas and turkey, is thought to cause fewer side effects than other treatments that have been considered because it occurs naturally in the brain. …

Kick from pot?

LOL

I do see addiction to it but not from all users. Probably the easiest thing for me to walk away from between tobacco, alcohol, and pot.

So the weed won’t do it for them anymore.
They move up to something far worse. Brilliant.

I didn't know you could become addicted to marijuana. Learn something new every day.

"Calling cannabis users “addicts” is sure to anger a few people. "

Since pot use leads to bi-polar disease, how can you tell if they are more angry than normal?

And they worked so hard on this project that they FORGOT to do research on cancer, MS, ALS, Autism, Schizophrenia, TB, Spinal Bifida, Downs Syndrome, Leprosy, and other things that aren’t NEARLY as Hugh and Series as Marijuana Addiction./s

In modern-day science, anything is possible if the people funding your study say it is.

Yep, reminds me of the studies done by Dr. Nehaus (sp) in the 90's.

Where did you find the research on that?

Marijuana is no more addictive than coffee. Nobody goes through detox withdrawals when they quit.

used MJ a couple dozen times or so circa 1976-78. Walked away after asking myself, what’s the big deal?

Maybe I didn’t use enough to be addicted. If I get stomach cancer may give it another try

No problem quitting and never new any “addicts.”

Worked in corrections 28 years, never met a MJ addict.

Correct. Marijuana does not have the physiological markers for addiction that nicotine and alcohol do, for instance.

There are STRONG indications of psychological addictions to marijuana, but those are not going to lead to withdrawal.

When you see the risks to careers and reputations and jail that people take during their entire lives to use it, then it does seem more than just a preference.

When you see a normally straight person with life goals, risk it all for decade after decade, after decade, to smoke pot, then it seems less convincing that they can take it or leave it.

Uh, while pot certainly does have some detrimental effects, it’s not addictive.

Now, meth, crack, and heroin, THOSE are addictive!

There is evidence that marijuana use and psychiatric disorders are correlated:

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2013/04/130402124817.htm.

While this research does not distinguish whether people use pot because of the mental illness, or if the pot causes the mental illness, there are other studies that suggest that pot does cause psychotic disorder, especially when used by adolescents.

You could say the same about carbs and chocolate, if they were banned. Or sex, and affairs.

No. Ban chocolate, have huge penalties for its consumption, and you’ll still have people risking everything to consume it.

People risked more for alcohol during Prohibition.

I wonder how much money it would cost in various research grants to figure out that whatever people want to do to themselves, they will do to themselves?

It’s almost like we are ENTITLED to control our own lives without the government telling us what we can and can’t do.

If they were to legalize heroin, how many of us would suddenly run to the local mall and start shooting up? Common sense is what keeps us from doing stuff like that, not legality.

Cannabis is the least harmful thing of cannabis, cigarettes, or booze.
