Word For The Day, Thursday, Rocktober 17, 2013 – dissilient
dictionaries ad nauseam | 17 October 2013 | Thursday's sub

Posted on 10/17/2013 4:48:38 AM PDT by secret garden

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

dissilient \dih-SIL-ee-uhnt\ , adjective
bursting apart; bursting open

Example sentences:
I imagined the dissilient pod of rumours a creative bureau chief up for promotion might hatch. Stories, once sprung, would snowball out of control, growing more damaging with each repetition.
-- Susan Daitch, L.C., 2002

The court was dissilient, generationally fractured, manned (as it were) by an increasingly impatient and acquisitive nobility.
-- Eric Scott Mallin, Inscribing the Time, 1995

Etymology:
Dissilent comes from the Latin word dissilīre meaning "to leap apart."

The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

But Fred Thompson says that reverse mortgages are so easy and are almost a GIFT from Ronald Reagan...sarc/off

Reminds me of my dear, sweet grandmother who used to say, “It must be good. It’s highly advertised.” (everybody would laugh at her behind her back)

Wait a minute. Are you implying that disinterested third parties cannot plan your life or predict the future?

AOR ruined more music.

Airplay Oriented Rock, destroyed more bands than Don King did fighters.

The Beatles were always fluff, before Yoko got her claws into Lennon.

AND NOW FOR THE REST OF THE STORY:
They laughed, sure - but the laughter stopped after grandma fell in the dark, injuring herself at her home. But she kept her head, clapped twice, turning on the lights, enabling her to locate her Medic Alert, which she used to tell the authorities that she had fallen, and couldn't get up. They arrived at the scene, treated her, and everyone lived happily ever after.

Fluff?
Gasping for air here...David Cassidy, Bobby Sherman, that was fluff. The Beatles were not fluff. Paul McCartney and George Harrison were brilliant artists and writers. Paul still has a better ear for tunesmithing than 99% of today's radio crap.

I thought AOR was Album Oriented Rock. Meant to sell albmus versus the teeny boppers buying 45s.

Gladwell was full of $h!t..

When confronted with sports(think Basketball players turned TE’s) he retreated to COGNITIVE pursuits, using...NEUROSURGEONS as his example, saying in cognitive pursuits there are no ‘naturals’

Thats a straw man.

Think about the fields of computer science...cognitive, lots of naturals.

And FWIW...no one performs Neurosurgery for 10,000 hours before cutting someone open.

Our people, once proud and resilient
Are dissolute, discordant, dissilient
The left tore apart
Our soul and our heart
And they laugh in our faces, ebullient

That was it’s progenitor. But in the 80s when normally good bands started including pop pieces (think of ...for instance, the devolution from High and Dry, to Pyromania) it became a term of derision for selling out..

Like The Black Album

I apologize, i thought you might get irked at that.

I wanna hold you haaaaand...;-)

However, you have 3 bands coming out of the early 60’s.

The Beatles, the Stones, and The Who? ....just sayin.

Paperback Writer, I like. But...

How could claim there are no naturals at any Cognitive pursuit.

Thats retarded.

Thompson didn’t practice writing, it came to him naturally. And he wrote some of his best stuff early on, including his correspondence while in the Army. Read “The Proud Highway”....

And as I pointed out the Computer Science field is full of people who just get it.

Man, Entwistle on Real Me...may be one of the greatest Bass efforts ever recorded.

After a couple beers, that always a must listen.
