The Polar Express is Leaving the Station
Ive been watching the 10-day GFS forecast for the U.S., and each run is reinforcing the previous one, with a major cold air outbreak for most of the U.S. late next week.
Me: brrrrrr! Ice age coming? Some people think so.
Look, do not panic. Most car engines and home furnaces function well all the way down into the 70's. Relax. The idea is that your neighbors drop dead of hypothermia before you do. At that point I recommend cannibalism.
Weenie
Looks like central KY has seen the last of the 70s and within a week or two, the last of the 60s.
Now if we could just see the last of Mitch McConnell as soon I’d be very happy.
If you get a low pressure system passing directly over your area, with those 850 mb temps, you could pull down enough cold air to get snow especially at night.
If we could get rid of the tilt of our planet, we could get rid of this ‘weather’ problem.
I live next a major Army Base.
Not til it’s below 80.
What is the weather going to be in Las Vegas next week? Any idea?
“Now if we could just see the last of Mitch McConnell....”
I’m beginning to agree with that!
“What is the weather going to be in Las Vegas next week? Any idea?”
Dark tonight. Changing to light tomorrow. - George Carlin as Al Sleet, the hippy-dippy weather man.
farmers almanac predicts extremely cold winter this yr.
It is already chilly here in Texas!”
I know people laugh at what we consider cold but it’s been down in the lower 50’s at night here lately and that’s cold - FOR US - only in the lower 70’s during the day.
Not sure but I believe that is a departure from normal scale. Certainly the SW is not going to be 24 degrees.
I told a woman at his office that she needed to start looking for another job. Even if he wins the primary, he’s not going back to DC. He has screwed too many conservatives in KY. F**k it, I’m not voting for him. PERIOD.
if that map verifies, we’re looking at 40 deg F on the east coast, mid atlantic - i’m betting it will modify a bit, but still well below avg...
5,000 ft
In the winter time, this map is helpful for determining rain/snow. Most snow sublimates at the 850 mb level, obviously below 0 C. There are exceptions but it’s a decent big picture tool.
The Weather Channel extended forecast for Chicago shows them warming up a few degrees late next week from where they’re at now. I wonder who’s right.
OH, give me a break, Grams!
I was stationed at the Air Force Base in San Angelo, TX, during the winter of ‘81 - ‘82. The temperature dropped to 12 degrees Farenheit. My poor little 240Z never warmed up when I drove it.
One thing I personally verified - Texas bubbas can’t drive on either snow or ice.
But then, neither can most drivers in New York City...
Just an observation from experience...
