I saw some interviews with federal employees following the shutdown. I noticed that the accents of the employees were Northern, I did not hear a Southern accent. While I only caught the accents of a few people, it made me wonder if the Democrats are stacking the federal jobs with liberal workers from the North.
From the North East.
I lived in Texas for a while back in the 80s and all the news broadcasters had northern accents. Seems that there are some careers where people actively seek to eliminate the accent.
Obama is just hiring marxist acedemics like himself and it doesn’t matter where they’re from.
“They’re disproportionally black, I do know that much.”
Try to find a white person working for the IRS...
I don’t know about that, but I’m sure there are some Martin Owe’Malley-worshipping henchmen in there.
Maryland “Freak State” PING!
Do Marylanders have a Southern accent?
Better yet, Housing and Urban Development.
[Federal] Workforce Demographic Breakdown Reported
The Federal workforce is 17.8 percent Black, 8.1 percent Hispanic, 5.6 percent Asian/Pacific Islander, 1.7 percent Native American, 0.8 percent non-Hispanic/Multi-racial, and 66.0 percent White. Minorities as a whole constituted 34.1 percent of the Federal workforce. Men comprised 56.1 percent of all Federal permanent employees and women 43.9 percent.....
In the real South, Marylanders are considered “border” people. Their allegiance is for them to determine.
My people were Kentucky, also border people. The same rule applies, though most all Kentuckians consider themselves Southern. Their state was officially neutral during the Unpleasantness.
Over 60%. There are quota rules for hiring managers.
The same applies for Big Pharma, my first career. I could tell you stories about affirmative action that would get you all riled up.
They seem to be overwhelmingly Demoncraps.
The political class needs to be culled via Term Limits, and their lap dog apparatchik Federal Workers comprised of lazy bums stealing a paycheck to push paper around and take 100 days a year off at taxpayer expense must be stopped cold.
It’s high time DC is put in check by the States.
The only viable strategy going forward is to wage class war against the parasite class and target the Washingtonians from both parties that are entrenched in safe Districts.
Of course, the propagandist press must be dealt with.
Putin in Russia just shoots any “reporter” that gets out of line.
The CPUSA here is firmly entrenched in the media and supports the domestic marxists 1000%.
They are enjoying salad days, but their time of reckoning is fast approaching.
How many are Christian? How many are former veterans? How many are from MA, PA, NJ, and N? Maybe you should sew some arm bands?
I would say that the DC based fed employees are mostly from around here (metro DC) and a smattering of people that transfer to work within the fed system from other places.
It’s been my experience that the engineers, the science types with a specific professional skill like geology and IT are usually white while the general employees and bureaucrat types that just punch a clock and push paperwork are usually minority.
There are a lot of contractors from up north because this area offers a good representation of the NE but with better weather. You can live much larger on a $50k salary in the DC area than you can anywhere north of the Mason Dixon line.
For the most part, the people I’ve run into from down south are hill staffers that leave after a period of time, active duty stationed at the various facilities and ex-mil types that stay for work.
Obama is just hiring marxist acedemics like himself and it doesnt matter where theyre from.
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
He has the added ‘burden’ of surrounding himself with people that make it so he is the ‘smartest’ and ‘best looking’ person in the room.
There are distinct accents throughout the state but I don’t know of any which would be considered similar to ‘southern US.’
About 25% of federal employees are veterans.
During the 90's, the Clintons began working feverishly to politicize the Civil Service. Beastwoman appears to have led this move, instigating "change agents" named by the political appointees to lead secret circles w/in the Service that would make HR policy recommendations to make the Service over into a 'Rat-friendly rats' nest.
Beastwoman's battle cry was "too pale, too male, too stale" (typical Beast-Alinsky phrasemongering), and the purpose of the "change agent" rings was to lead brainstorming on how to get the white guys out and get more 'Rat/minority/lesbian people in.
Their stuff was on a lot of Civil Service sites ... like NOAA's. All the top political people were PC minorities (at NOAA the guy was Hispanic from PR), and getting rid of Whitey was the agenda.
I wrote a letter to Sen. Phil Gramm's office about it, and some moron deliberately misunderstood what I was saying and dashed off a letter asking me, without any reason for doing so, whether I'd been denied employment by NOAA on account of my race or gender. Republicans are morons, but when they are morons at that level, it's deliberate.
...or active duty......
Does the federal govt hire people over 50? I have always been under the impression they don’t.
The accent of native Marylanders really depends the part of the state in which you were born. Where I live it’s a little southern-sounding, but then there’s a heavy dose of Baltimore...it sounds strange.
A lot of people who live in Maryland weren’t born in Maryland too, so they bring their southern, northeastern, Midwestern et. accents with them.
So let's put that to Freeper "cradle of freedom", who started this thread.
And 44% of the DoD employees who work for our Dept of Defense, as maintenance workers, electricians, police, or trainers - are veterans themselves who wore the uniform of this nation.
What say you, cradle of freedom?
Maybe we should extend this witch hunt against non-veterans, who never served?
I'd be willing to bet money the percentage working in DC is substantially less.
I used to have sort of a country accent when I was growing up, but not anymore.
From Maine originally. 31+ years at the CIA. Conservative all the way. Not all New Englanders are Libtards.
I worked for a federal law-enforcement agency for many years. (OK, I have seen the error of my ways and am eternally repentant.) Nevertheless, it’s true-—the workforce was disproportionately northern and black. I can only recall a handful of southerners. Being a law-enforcement agency, the workforce was pretty conservative, which made the experience bearable, even fulfilling at times. Conservative friends of mine who have been employed by more typical (i.e. non-law-enforcement) agencies were completely disgusted with the political bent of the workforce.
One thing is sure—you will find very, very few federal employees, who like me, question the very legitimacy or morality of their jobs, or the government and its proper role in our lives per the constitution. They are overwhelmingly politically ignorant and have an innate, reflexive sense of entitlement. You can talk to them till you’re blue in the face about how grossly overcompensated they are, or how they add nothing to the productive capacity of the country, and it does no good. They are true believers. They love the government and are completely incapable of questioning its size, its scope, or anything else about it. They regularly complain about their jobs, but never the very legitimacy of the job.
Folks in DC lose their local accents fast. If the native Virginians here have southern accents, I’ve grown deaf to them. Very few DC folks from SC-NC-GA-AL-MS-AR-TN-LA-KY stretch of states, although I know several with sharp accents from TX.
You’d be wrong.
I think there has been a moratorium on hiring white males since 2007.
Wouldn’t be the first time. Probably won’t be the last.
That's an old, old practice in radio and TV broadcasting. Long ago the industry chose the Midwestern accent as the one to use. And they do.
It could be much, much worse, you know. What if they had settled on Brooklynese?
I don’t get what you’re angry about. I meant no harm by this question. It only seemed to be based on the small sample that that I heard that maybe the Dems were packing the federal government with as many Dems as possible, as they always try to take over everything.
No wonder that Northern Virginia votes Democrat.
The guy that just audited me was the most boring white guy I have ever met. Completely devoid if a sense of humor. Like auditing me wasn’t good enough for him.
Boston is the most horrible IMO but I was born in the Bronx and grew up in a Philly suburb. Wooder instead of water. When I went into a 7-11 store after many years I was talking to the owner and he said that originally he could tell what other towns nearby someone was from by their accent. LONG ago. Probably 50 years. Everyone talked to their neighbors though. Not anymore. My favorite accent is the Texan accent. Lived in MO for 13 yrs and say y’all once in a while.
I have work as an engineer in Alabama and Texas and all the engineers from the South have dropped any accent.
You do hear a “used ta could” once in a while though.
It is common for people to take classes to lose their accent, especially if they are from the south and trying to advance with the feds or a large corporation. Flyover country accents are supposed to indicate a lack of intelligence, or something like that. You will probably be considered some kind of redneck tea party racist homophobe woman hater bitter clinger too.
I don't know.
But my son, raised in northeastern Maryland, after enlisting in the Marines and being stationed in Georgia, was often called a Yankee in those areas due to his accent.
When he got out and moved to NYS, the locals often called him out as a Southerner because of the very same accent.
Maryland is a Southern state. It’s just that we’ve been overwhelmed by Yankee (spit!) Carpetbaggers, too.
You think the cost of living in DC area is cheaper than Pittsburgh or Scranton?
$50k goes a lot farther there.
I’ve lived in the DC area for 37 years; I’m self employed.
When I started working back in 1977 (with a firm that consults with clients about federal matters), most of the people in the government that I dealt with came from the south; Washington was to people from Virginia, West Virginia and the Carolinas what Detroit was to people from Kentucky and Tennessee. There were a few people like me who came from the midwest. I worked for three attorneys; one of whom was a native Washingtonian; another came from Bellaire, Ohio (across the river from Wheeling, WV) and the third came from Idaho.
People are here from all over the country. The lawyers who dominate the plum jobs in the government come from the top law schools, which are principally in the Washington-DC-Phila-NYC-Boston corridor (throw in Michigan, Chicago, Stanford and Boalt Hall to that list).
They have a funny (if not downright ugly) accent all their own. Water is pronounced “wuter”; house is pronounced “hise”; when someone tells you that he or she is going to the Atlantic beaches, they’ll say that they are “goin’ donn de aoshin”; oysters are pronounced “urshters”; Baltimore is pronounced variously “balmer” and “bowl-tee-more”; and the state is pronounced “Murlin”. This accent spills over into parts of southeastern PA, Delaware and northern/Chesapeake Virginia. The preposition “on” is pronounced “own”.
Their ancestors moved to DC looking for Mr. Lincoln to feed them.
