Brian Wilson Turned Down $1 Million To Shave
Lifestyle Mirror ^ | Saturday, October 19, 2013

I said it before, and now I'm going to say it again: beards are so hot right now. Implants are a thing, and razor sale are down. And now, in breaking beard news, L.A. Dodgers relief pitcher Brian Wilson apparently turned down an offer of $1 million to shave his famous facial hair.

According to Esquire, 800razors.com offered Wilson that outrageous sum of money to shave his aggressive, probably-dyed beard; to which he responded, "I don't care how much money's on the table— nobody's cutting me!"

I don't think anyone should sell out for their hair (or facial hair) unless it's for a good cause, so I think Wilson made the right call here. Since I'm not a huge baseball follower, I can't really speak to his playing skills, but the guy is so famous for his beard— how could he really afford to get rid of it? With one million dollars? Not likely.

Clearly, athletes, actors, musicians and normal guys alike are having a moment for their hair. Facial and otherwise, it's all about beards, buns and even fancy updos. Now those are priceless.

Turning down $1M to shave is probably worth more in gold in terms of publicity.

Beards reduce skin cancer and keep you warm in the winter.

IMO, he’s a fool for not taking that offer. It will grow back AND you have $1mm more than you had before.

i remember as a little shaver watching my dad shave and telling him i couldn't wait till i could shave, he said "Wait till you HAVE to shave everyday, tell me how you feel then"

i've had a beard since i was in my twenties of varying length from ZZ-Top to the the 1/2" i have today, but no fear of being offered even ten cents to shave it off

Whenever I see the players with the beards of today, I reminded of these guys:

He believes his beard is more valuable on than off. Without he’s just an average closer with an elbow past its expiration date.

I have a goatee with the moustache and chin hair connected, trimmed very close.

Some goatees have only the chin hair. And then there’s the van dyke, where you have a moustache and chin hair but they’re not connected.

Lots of variations.

Brian Wilson - Barenaked Ladies

Drove downtown in the rain
Nine-thirty on a Tuesday night,
Just to check out the late-night
Record shop.
Call it impulsive
Call it compulsive,
Call it insane;
But when I’m surrounded
I just can’t
Stop.

It’s a matter of instinct
It’s a matter of conditioning
It’s a matter of fact.

You can call me Pavlov’s
Dog,
Ring a bell and I’ll salivate -
How’d you like that?
Dr. Landy tell me
You’re not just a pedagogue

‘Cause right now I’m

[Chorus]
Lying in bed
Just like Brian Wilson did
Well I am
Lying in bed
Just like Brian Wilson did.

So I’m lying here
Just staring at the ceiling tiles,
And I’m thinking about
Oh what to think about.

Just listening and re-listening
To Smiley Smile,
And wondering if this is some kind of creative drought
Because I’m

[Chorus]

And if you want to find me
I’ll be out in the sandbox,
Wondering where the hell all the
Love has gone,
Playing my guitar and
Building castles in the sun and
Singing “Fun, Fun, Fun”

[Chorus]

I had a dream
That I was three hundred pounds
And though I was very heavy
I floated ‘til I couldn’t see the ground
I floated ‘til I couldn’t see the ground
Somebody help me,
I couldn’t see the ground
Somebody help me because I’m

[Chorus]

Drove downtown in the rain
Nine-thirty on a Tuesday night,
Just to check out the late-night
Record shop.
Call it impulsive
You can call it compulsive,
You can call it insane;
But when I’m surrounded
I just can’t
Stop.
