Forget the burger and fries clogging your arteries. The "Big Catch" fish platter at Long John Silver's is being called the "Worst Restaurant Meal in America." The Center for Science in the Public Interest, a consumer advocacy group, says the dish has more than 1300 calories, 33 grams of trans fats and 3700 milligrams of sodium.

I buy those same frozen fish filets at Walmart and cook them in the oven. Much fewer calories and less fat, and less mess, too. I also bake the fries.
Stopped reading right there. They're a bunch of vegans pretending to be a paragons of public health, kind of like the AARP is for the all retired, and NAACP is for all blacks.
I can’t eat their food. Horrible stuff.
I’ve got to try that.
Which probably means it tastes awesome
too bad its owned by a leftwing company
CSPI is a leftwing group started by Ralph Nader
just so you know.
There is no “science” involved, just leftists
I find their fries to be terrible, but I do like their fish especially with malt vinegar. The chicken planks have also always been a favorite.
I like the chicken more than the fish but I have trouble telling them apart
“Eat your peas.” - President Barack Hussein Obama
"Ah yes, I had the lasagna."
Regardless of CSPI’s agenda, the nutrition facts are what they are. We make faux fast-food at home to save money!
Tom just wrote a paper advocating higher taxation of food like this, because there was data to use in defending this position, while the libertarian view is mostly philosophical. His teacher’s probably a Democrat, anyway, and will eat up the reference to Michelle Obama’s exercise drive and “leaders such as Mayor Bloomberg.”
Maybe once or twice during Lent I’ll swing by and get something but its pretty bad.
It really is nasty.
The best part are the little bits of fried stuff in the bottom and the hush puppies. Cole slaw is okay.
Who asked them?
Every once in a while I just have to have a little trans-fat...and I don't want any government or advocacy group stopping LJS, KFC, McDonald's, or anyone else from making me good food...sheesh!! (I wonder if that's what happened to Arthur Treacher's?? They made the best fish and chips, SIGH)
What could possibly be worst for you? Pork brains?
I have no reason to doubt their data, but Long John Silver’s food is among the worst. Seriously, it has no redeeming value. Bottom line, it is poorly prepared and tastes awful
We just went to a local LJS’s Friday. Food was good but the obama supporters working there were acting like, well, obama supporters. Our last visit now knowing that LJS’s is owned by a leftist.
I learned about LJS being owned by leftards so I boycott it. The only time I actually eat fish and chips is when I go back to canada.
How can they be fries if you baked them? They would be bakes.
You just ruined my appetite with the Casper the Ghost fish...: (
Alfie’s Fish & Chips was much better but I don’t think any of them still exist.

How can you have any pudding if you don’t eat yer meat?”
i feel oily just looking at it.

“Center for Science in the Public Interest”
A liberal anti-food group. They were the ones that went on the “saturated fat” crusade in the 1980’s then went on to crusade against trans-fats in the 1990s’s and now want to ban all fried foods. They want “organic” produce, veggies and fruits, only to enter you mouth, no meats, dairy, or any animal based foods of any kind.
These guys are liberal Nazi food freaks.
I know, it’s just wrong.
I used to like Long John Silvers as well as Captain D’s. I don’t guess I have eaten at either since around 1985. I do recall their fish used to be Cod instead of Haddock.
Not sure which is better.
I oppose all taxes on philosophical grounds
I’m inclined to agree with you, but the assignment was about research, and the numbers are there for advocates of nanny-state laws. And he started Wednesday morning on an assignment due Friday afternoon!
Yes, that, and it’s also surprising he isn’t missing some fingers by now.
Research and numbers are not conclusions.
Ditto that. Fish with the vinegar is a big thumbs up but the rest is awful. Can't stand the fries, the slaw or the hush puppies. Ha, the article thinks it has to explain that hush puppies are fried cornmeal batter as if anyone doesn't know that. I make a mean hush puppy!
He needs guidance. There must be some objective data that supports not adding a new tax on the food that other people eat.
Same here. There used to be one 1/2 mi from me and way back they had oysters. Double yummmmmm. They dropped those but I still liked to eat there now and then.
They shut down and there's one left in the area, not worth driving to. I found a recipe for their batter on the web and got my own fish. Catfish fillets, tilapia and some cod. Wanted some scallops and oysters but the store won't have them fresh until closer to the holidays.
When I got the fish I couldn't resist some creamed herring. Long senior moment there. I like shrimp, too in my own horseradish/chili sauce. Heinz chili sauce, no chili in it, my favorite brand of that. Squeeze of lemon juice.
Anyway, I don't use a thermometer and my fat may not have been hot enough but my batter didn't get as golden brown as that picture. It fried up nice and crispy though and tasted fine. I saw another recipe with 1 tsp of sugar, didn't know if I should try that or not. I don't want beer batter though.
This was 3/4 cup flour 2 tbsp corn starch 1/4 tsp baking powder 1/4 tsp baking soda 1/4 tsp salt, 3/4 cup water. I don't deep fry anything very often. Usually I bake fish different ways. Patted the fish dry and the batter is thick enough and sticks very well.
These guys are liberal Nazi food freaks.
They're all a bunch of vegans who want people to give up meat, founded by Ralph Nader, no less. And yet the drive-by's treat them as honest brokers looking out for healthy food, just like they treat the AARP as spokesmen for all retired people.
I cant eat their food. Horrible stuff.
Don’t sweat it, with all that grease it’ll slide right out in no time at all.
Fox should know better.
Always remember the key to healthy dining. If it tastes good, SPIT IT OUT!
If “The Center for Science in the Public Interest” is against it, I’ll have to go try this at lunch tomorrow. I don’t know if we still have a Long John Silvers in my area anymore. What the heck, I’ll drive up to an hour and a half to try it.
There might be, but he wasn’t going to find it overnight, which was all the time he had. I did a full, sentence-by-sentence rewrite, because he can’t afford a bad grade at this point. Careful monitoring will prevent future emergencies!
Got food poisoning from that joint back in the ‘80’s. I’m back better then ever after two bags of injected saline. They’ll NEVER get my loot again.
Is that John McCain?
