Word For The Day, October 22, 2013
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
1.Also, er·is·ti·cal. pertaining to controversy or disputation; controversial.
2. a person who engages in disputation; controversialist.
3. the art of disputation.
[163040; < Greek eristikós, equivalent to erist ( ós ) (verbid of erízein, derivative of éris discord) + -ikos -ic]
Look, I came here for an argument.
The Obamacare rollout’s eristic
The Regime’s hiding every statistic
But Barry says “Wait!
This ‘product’ is great!”
He’s corrupt, he’s deranged, egotistic
Some people think you’re hubristic, when you’re just being eristic, but fail to apologize when their counter arguments don’t stick ;-)
The eristical deployment of our company’s latest product was a result of procrustean demands by management.
Catch that pic I tweeted you
For all others its on Lucianne.com.
Saw it earlier.
I dispute this meaning for eristic, I object and will argue against it seeing that it is far too controversial, disputes, alarums and disputations will occur! Harrumph!
no you didn’t
Yes, I did.
An argument isn’t the same thing as a contradiction.
We had a rough might. Chan collapsed out in the yard last night, I had to carry her in, sat with her on my lap awhile, she took her meds etc and before it was time for bed she collapsed again and I held her while she convulsed. We really thought she would not make it through the night, esp after our experience with Lucius who passed quickly. Xshub and I slept in the couches in the fam room so as to be with her. Her breathing eased she got up to drink at various points and even scratched to go out during the night. I called the vet when they opened at 7 am and we took her and they admitted her until dr McDaniel comes in at 10:30. She will call me after she examines her. She was stable this AM, walked into the vet with her tail wagging. Poor Jules is so sad and worried.
Yes it is. ;-)
I would have been here earlier, but the eristics at Microsoft turned off my computer as I was in the act of replying to you! Something about an update...
I am so sorry to hear that...
Hope she turns well..:(...
Sorry to hear. I hope all turns out well.
Yes it is
(I love that skit)
Of COURSE you do!
Isn’t there a zero tolerance policy about bringing intellectual processes to class?
what Hobbes and SD said...
After all, If I am going to argue with you, I have to take a contrary position!
I probably toldja this, but my 8 year old, knows the whole Witch skit, from Holy Grail.
And I wonder why he has problems in Science class. ;-)
Don’t you just hate it when people overuse **eristics** & other punctuation??!!!
The best part of that skit is watching Cleese’s expressions.
No it isn’t
And, no it osn’t
No it isn’t.
Before the site was launched, the president said it would make signing up for health care as easy as making a plane reservation. When, after a few rocky days that turned out to be too rosy, the administration dropped the airline analogy. Now the experience more closely approximates the saga of having your flight delayed. First, the airline tells you it will be a half hour, then it stretches it to an hour, then two, then you’re offered a voucher for a drink. After four hours, it dawns on you that the plane is never taking off. They continue to assure you it willjust before they cancel your flight.
I’m so sorry to hear that-I take it there is no way to cure her problem? I hope at least it can be made better in the short term-she is such a young dog yet-you will let us know how she is doing, please?
I’ve tested, and built and rolled out tons of software.
Here’s the thing.
Every state has online enrollment for Medicaid, and social service networks at the state level, generally are tied into all other state services (like Unemployment...etc)
So, really all we are talking about is a common access front end, because the flat file on the backend, is clearly already formatted.
This should have been an extension of the Medicaid software.
This is more disgusting than most people realize.
The eristic nature of Obamacare
Is partly the way it’s written-
It demands you buy anti-venom for
A stranger before they are bitten
And even though your chances
Of tripping on a venomous snake
Are astronomical at the best
You’ll pay from what you make
For the snakebites, drug rehab,
The abortion and/or the birth
Of more ‘rat plantation workers
To wander aimless over the earth
Remember they also have to tie in to the IRS and other agencies. But yes, it is always easier to start with something that is working and build from there.
What we just said.
Evey state system does that already on the Stat level, not flat files, in real time, no less
Going to pick her up in a little bit. Her heart is further enlarged than it was in July. They’re going to switch up her meds some and they want me to monitor her heart rate 2x per day during a calm relaxed time and call her with that in a week. My concern is boarding her next w/e bc we are going to Philly for the engagement party. I don’t think Petsmart will be attentive enough to her. I guess the alternatives are the medical boarding at the vet or to see if patty my Dogwalker would feel Comfortable having her at her house if she’s stable. Party’s offered to take Jules for sat and part of Sunday so we will see.
I think I’d prefer the dogwalker’s house. Less stressful.
Ah, yes, you eristic-rat, you want room 12A, Just along the corridor.
I hope all goes well for chan, that sucks. :(
I hope she gets better-I would not board her with petsmart, if possible, the dogwalker sounds like a much safer and less stressful deal...
What T5. Said. They just don’t have the ability to keep a close enough eye on her.
Our Vet doesn’t get that much more than Petsmart, but they close at night.
Dog walker, it seems would be best. I hope she gets better quickly.
I’d prob throw myself off a bridge if something happened to the Yorkie of Caerbannog
