PD: Red Rock Man Kills Girlfriend With Prank

A small farm town in the shadow of Picacho Peak was left in disbelief after what Pinal County Sheriff's Deputies are calling a tragic accident.

Investigators say a prank left 19-year-old Dina Dicochea dead.

According to deputies, Dicochea's boyfriend, 20-year-old Ramiro Delcid, shot her while the two were sitting in his company truck at Red Rock Feed Company just before 7 p.m. Monday.

Delcid told investigators that he thought he had taken all of the bullets out of his revolver when he aimed the gun at his girlfriend and pulled the trigger. Delcid admitted to detectives he was trying to scare her.

Reyna Soqui lives two doors down from Delcid.

"I'm sure it was an accident because he wouldn't do something like that. I have known Ramiro my whole life. He's been a great guy," said Soqui.

Soqui said Dicochea recently moved to Red Rock from Tucson and that the couple lived together. Although she never talked much with Delcid's girlfriend, she said the two seemed happy together.

"I know he loved her. They were doing good together," said Soqui.

Delcid's boss said he was a good young man and that had no idea he was carrying a gun.

what kind of ‘boyfriend’ pulls a prank like that? what was he trying to do pointing a gun at his ‘girlfriend’ and pulling the trigger?

Premeditated murder. Seek death penalty, and fire reporter.

Again, why should we assume this was an accident?

Bears repeating, with emphasis:

Col. Coopers gun safety rules:

1. All guns are always loaded. Even if they are not, treat them as if they are.

2. Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy. (For those who insist that this particular gun is unloaded, see Rule 1.)

3. Keep your finger off the trigger till your sights are on the target. This is the Golden Rule. Its violation is directly responsible for about 60 percent of inadvertent discharges.

4. Identify your target, and what is behind it. Never shoot at anything that you have not positively identified.

Assuming that story is true that isn't a prank. Sounds more like mental abuse and could draw a charge of assault and battery and probably some other charges.

Yes, I have my doubts too. Even if he did it on purpose, does anyone think he would admit to murder?

Ironically these kind of situations (if this was indeed an accident) are a product of strict gun control.

I was brought up with guns around me and was taught at an early age to respect guns and never toy around with them. My time in the Marine Corps reinforced that. It was drummed into us in the Marine Corp that any "accidental" discharge of our weapon under any circumstances would result in court-martial and brig time.

These days, not many people are exposed to guns at an early age because of all the hysteria surrounding them. Therefore it is easy for accidents to happen. It's like tossing the car keys to your 18-year-old kid without any previous driving experience.

Like many here, I don’t believe it. Anyone stupid enough to point a revolver at someone and pull the trigger is guilty of reckless homicide at the very least and probably premeditated murder. Life without parole is the minimum reasonable sentence.

you don’t do ‘pranks’ with a real gun.

Given the current quality of reporting, I have my doubts that it was a revolver.

“Accidental” shootings like this are most commonly the result of taking out the magazine and leaving one in the chamber.

A good reason to offer a basic gun safety class in high school.

Agreed. Neighbor's cousin did similar (alcohol was involved), with a shotgun, at a party, killed one of his friends.

Yep, he may be a good guy, but anyone with an IQ above room temperature knows, without a doubt, you never point a gun at anyone, let alone pull the trigger too! That is just plain negligent homicide. At the very least he should spend a lot of time in jail for being mortally stupid.

No, anybody with solid and early in life training in safe handling of firearms knows that. Too many people are growing up without a real no-nonsense gun awareness session. Like this kid, obviously. It's not an excuse for this, just some explanation. We shouldn't assume that this kid had the benefit of the same awareness training we've all had. Clearly he did not. I could never bring myself to pull the trigger on a gun pointed at a friend, even after checking several times that it was empty. I just couldn't do it. My finger wouldn't have the strength to overcome my fear.

My comment notwithstanding... Assuming the facts are really as presented, I don’t see the point in a heavy prison sentence for him. His punishment is already started in the vision he will have for the rest of his life of his girlfriend bleeding out next to him because of his stupid prank. I’d say he’s had the lesson driven home. Of all of us... He’s the least likely now to ever have an accidental discharge again.

Putting him in prison for a long time now just ensures that he’ll never amount to anything in life and will probably be educated in all the wrong arts instead. Prison should be for separating people from civilized society when they’ve proven they cannot live among the free. This kid has gotten a crash course in the effects of stupidity... And likely isn’t going to be dangerous to society as a whole anymore. Imprisonment at this point just creates another wasted life. I don’t see the point. Some other punishment perhaps.
