dictionaries ad nauseam | 24 October 2013 | Thursday's sub

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

mien (meen) noun
Appearance, bearing, or demeanor.

Example sentence:
"Everyone Nanako Coates greets walks away smiling. But beyond that exuberant, youthful mien is a seasoned veteran with years of professional experience in the restaurant business."
--Eizo Kobayashi; Daughter Follows in Family's Culinary Tradition; Oakland Tribune (California); Sep 17, 2013.

Etymology:
Probably a shortened form of demean (to conduct oneself in a specified manner), influenced by French mine (appearance). Earliest documented use: 1522.

The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Obama’s minions in a panic
Is a very fine sight to see
As the Roman mob discovers
That Obamacare isn’t “free”

They’ve backed into a corner
And lost their smiling mien-
Snarling apocalyptic threats,
You can’t doubt they’re insane

They can’t manage a website-
They want someone to blame
But pointing at the contractor
Looks ridiculous and lame...

Ooo, clever boy. A+ for the turn of phrase.
Our goalie is out for a month, more hip trouble. :( Sorry about Boston.

They have no idea what they are doing, as usual. That’s what happens when you surround yourself with sycophants who possess no real world skills. Pencilneck over at HHS asked for 150% and an A team. No one talks like that in real life. Idiots, every one of them. A+ for you!

It’s said the President’s mein is that of a typical snob, arrogant, vindictive, resentful, and self-absorbed. Then there’s his bad side....

Thank you!

I think not having an A team designing it from the gitgo shows the incompetence of those who spawned the monstrosity in the first place-if it were private industry, heads from middle management to the CEO would have rolled by now-that disclaimer on the sign in page that says there is no expectation of privacy should say there is no expectation of sanity instead...

Oh no, Pekka is pekid? Good luck to Preds for the duration of his injury...

The Sabres really stink this year and I’m not up on Rolston as an NHL head coach, but I still cannot understand the level of uproar at the hit by Scott on the Boston player yesterday — the guy is 6 foot 8 inches tall and should be aware of the discrepancy whenever when he hits someone, but his presence in the lineup for basically one reason is common, and the incident wasn’t as egregious as many that I’ve seen which have hardly garnered ANY media attention.

my girls are wild for that song still. i sent it to them when Soother first brought it to the classroom weeks ago. try finding a fox sweater anywhere on the planet! cannot be done. xsteen had been looking and every single place that had any type of sweater with a fox on it was sold out. i did find something on etsy, but it didn't arrive in time for her bday. But xsbaby's present for her sister DID arrive in time:
