Secession means never having to say “please” and “may we” again.....

In other words, it means war.

The problem with all this secession thinking is that the emotionalism counts for more than anything practical.

It's not enough to change your status through a constitutional, you have to have all the emotional satisfaction of making a scene.

But we didn’t secede from Great Britain - the colonials were honest enough to admit that we were openly rebelling against their rule.
