Cats are great. Got my cats a six foot cat gym and next I see them on the top level eyeballing the ceiling. Gotta love them.

I had a kitty who was I think part Burmese or Russian Blue; she was a blue gray cat with a white heart on her neck. Shelter kitty. She taught me all about cats, and I had her from 10 months until her death at 17.
My second kitty is the one I have now, a tan tabby. She’s more independent than the other, she was 4 when I adopted her, shelter kitty as well. This one had a rough life, it took her about a year to become my friend but we are inseparable now. She’s 15.
They really were my best friends

I know just what you mean. You love them with all your heart, and it tears you up when you have to let go of them. 17 years is good (though not long enough, could never be that).
I love that your current kitty got over her past bad circumstances so well that she even learned how to love you.
