Power On marks a major milestone ahead of the maiden space bound Orion test flight dubbed EFT-1 now at T-Minus 1 year and counting!
NASA and prime contractor Lockheed Martin recently granted Universe Today an exclusive in depth inspection tour of the impressive Orion EFT-1 crew module, service module and associated hardware destined for the crucial unmanned test flight slated for liftoff from Cape Canaveral in September 2014.
We are moving fast! said Jules Schneider, Orion Project manager for Lockheed Martin at KSC, during an exclusive interview with Universe Today as we spoke beside the Orion EFT-1 spacecraft inside the clean room

Probably NASA will put a crescent moon on the Orion
Hatch looks too big.
When the rest of the outer hull and associated equipment is put on, the hatch will be considerably smaller. Unlike Apollo, this hatch is on the side of the spacecraft and not over the center couch. Still, I can’t wait to see the launch of our new spacecraft and new program. Should be a neat show.
Looks like the Apollo capsule, only bigger!
Proud Papa moment.
One of our daughters is a systems engineer on Orion. Glad to see things progressing on this.
Her first project was the Fluids & Combustion Facility lab module for the ISS. She got passes for Mrs BN & I to watch the night launch up close with the astronaut families & other VIPs.
Awesome sight! (and SOUND!!!)
What total junk. What a waste of NASA resources. This does NOTHING to make Muslims feel good about themselves. We all know NASA’s number one priority is the self esteem of Muslims.
What? I thought Obama cancelled manned space flight, to increase funding for “Muslim outreach”?
IS it me or does it look like an empty shell inside? I think the only thing they’ve powered up is the fluorescent light inside.
It would have to be a RED crescent moon if they wanted to make it "middle eastern." The RED Cross in the middle east is called the RED Crescent.
LOL!! It's all for show, ya know. But, it makes for good boobus-toobus talk and gets everyone's water warm.
It's an empty shell but who cares? It's SPACE, the FINAL FRONTIER!!
We are moving fast!
Reinventing the Apollo capsule should be a cakewalk if they can read the old fashioned blueprints and sliderule calculations.
Ooh, ooh, way cool! I had no idea!
I watched the first moon landing on a black and white
TV. At a hunting club in western Massachusetts!
Since then I’ve seen a shuttle launch and
landing up close.
Can the warp drive be imminent?
Eric the Red, Amerigo Van Spucci, Columbus,
it’s out there! For human beings.
Do we have a rocket on which to mount this capsule?
I think it’s going to be an Atlas at first and then the big SpaceX booster later.
I was wrong:
Orion EFT-1 will blastoff atop a mammoth United Launch Alliance Delta IV Heavy rocket the most powerful booster in Americas arsenal since the shuttles retirement in 2011.
