HARMANS, Md. (WJZ) It started with an online advertisement and a man looking to buy a car. But the purchase took a tragic turn.
Linh Bui reports Anne Arundel County Police now investigate a homicide.
Police continue searching for the shooter who they say used Craigslist to find his victim.
Halloween night, a Craigslist deal turned deadly. Just before 8 p.m., Anne Arundel County Police responded to a shooting in the 7400 block of Railroad Avenue in Harmans. Police found 44-year-old Rene Leiva-Archila of Baltimore badly wounded.
He was taken to the hospital and pronounced deceased, suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body, said Lt. T.J. Smith, Anne Arundel County Police.
According to police, this was not a random shooting. They say the victim saw an ad on Craigslist for a vehicle and came to a parking lot to meet the seller.

Need to do the Craigslist deals IN the popo garage.
Well if the killer was black then thank God the victim wasn’t armed and used a firearm to defend himself otherwise that would have been racist and Obama would have been upset.
Craigslist + car = dead. This seems to happen a lot.
I’m no detective but it should be fairly easy to get his IP address and track him down.
Last time I was involved in a Craig’s List deal, I was backup. And armed. And not the only backup.
PS In Texas. Everyone was armed. Very polite transaction.
You have to like Craig Newmark for at least one thing.
He’s done more to demolish newspapers (almost all of which are liberal) than anybody else.
The media, especially print media, hates Craigslist, they want you to have to pay them, the media, to advertise and they will bash C/L forever.
McDonalds ISP accessed without ever going inside?
There is this new think called wi-fi, you don’t need a wired hook-up.
I was at Lowe’s when the phone beeped and announced I now had free guest wifi.
But doesn’t every computer have a signature?
The signature can be changed daily if you know something about computers.
Even if there was a signature, they would just only use the computer in public places, never from a home if they worried about that.
my kid learned a very tough lesson on Craig’s list.
He wanted to sell a rifle
the buyer wanted to try it out and asked my kid to load it
my kid loaded it and the bastard took it from him, pointed it at him and told him to get the hell out of there
my kid is lucky to be alive
I knew nothing until weeks later
Its the same as answering classified newspaper adds.
Actually, it happened about as often (relative to the population) when I was a kid.
I’ve bought about a half-dozen items, mostly furniture, off of Craigslist and had no issues. The site is amazing.
Wow. Just wow. Hard life lesson, but fortunately not as hard as it could have been.
I’ve done lot’s of craigslist transactions without any drama.
The last one I did made me a bit nervous as the seller and item were in Fresno and I’m in the SF Bay Area and he didn’t have a PayPal account.
I talked to him on the phone and he was willing to take a check which eased my suspicions. I also googled his name and his address and he lived in a decent neighborhood.
I took a chance and sent him a Money Order.
$50.00 and one week later, I had a near-mint, Cold Steel Vaquero Grande in VG-1 show up in my mail box.
Cold Steel only made the Vaquero Grande in VG-1 steel in 2007 and 2008.
If he put it up on eBay, he could have got $150.00 for it, if not more.
I’m not going to turn it for a profit, but I will someday when it will be worth even more.
