Virginia Lieutenant Governor Ralph Northam is the subject of nationwide condemnation today for refusing to shake hands with his pro-life black conservative Republican opponent, E.W. Jackson. Northam was caught on camera refusing to shake Jacksons hand after supporting Obamacare and attacking conservative Christian voters.
As a pro-life, conservative African-American, Jackson has been pegged with the typical Uncle Tom attacks throughout the campaign from liberals who claim he is selling out his ethnicity by taking principled conservative stances and opposing abortion.
The incident comes after Jackson found that one of his campaign signs in Virginias Loudoun County had vandals smearing the sign with white paint.
Brietbart News has more and a video (below at the 6:30 mark) of what happened.
Virginias top Democratic candidates Terry McAuliffe (running for governor) and Northam have portrayed themselves as pragmatic centrists who are happy to reach across the aisle. But this video shows Northam wont even reach across his chair.
After a lively debate, at 6:30 in the video, Jacksonthe Republican candidate for lieutenant governorattempts to shake hands with Northam, who will not shake it and doesnt even look Jackson in the eye.
At first, a viewer might give Northam the benefit of the doubt that somehow he doesnt see the extended hand. But Jackson dispels that doubt by taking his outstretched hand to tap Northam on the arm and then re-extends his hand almost into Northams lap. Northam still refuses to take it.
It’s NOT RACIST when Democrats do it!
This same scenario destroyed Clayton Williams resulting in Ann Richerds election to Texas Governor. Republicans may have just been given a gift.
What a childish uqualified “man” the Demonrat is
Think if the GOP had the guts to run this on a commercial Monday night with the allegation that the white guy is racist...nah, no one’s smart enough to see something that obvious.
There are plenty of photos out there showing these two men shaking hands.
Got to watch the video. The white guy completely ignores his offer of a handshake at the end.
Many here would not shake Obama’s hand so big deal.
I don’t think he saw the gesture, as his nose was held rather high.
Further, he didn’t acknowledge the guy who tapped him because he was focused on himself.
I don’t see this as a bigoted response.
That Democrats sheets are showing!
White supremacist racist.
Your typical republican voter is not in the business of lying to get what he wants so he does not recognize it in others. When a republican is smeared with racism he typically loses some support from good people who fall for the smear. Your typical democrat voter is in the business of lying (espescially to himself) and like one theif recognizing another, they realize the racial themes are just lies. If they don’t understand it intellectually the get it instinctively. What is the saying, “Don’t con a conman?” My guess is the lib will see no fallout from this.
This is really an “11th hour disaster” for both this guy and McAuliffe. They had been somewhat tied together in the campaign, and now this is reverberating among blacks in the state. About 20% of the population.
What? a filthy racist democrat? What a surprise!
Candidates for Virginia Lt. Governor, Republican E.W. Jackson, left, and Democrat Ralph S. Northam shake hands after a debate at George Mason University, Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013 in Arlington, Va.
Many here would not shake Obamas hand so big deal.
Not true! I believe we would all be happy, nay eager to shake his hand as he was boarding a jet to leave America...forever.
These guys have shook hands plenty and I don’t think he realized the other guy had his hand out.
