Woman on Phone Drives Jeep into Herd of Cows: Cops
NBC New York ^ | Monday, Nov 4, 2013

Posted on 11/05/2013 5:24:24 AM PST by Gamecock

Police arrested a 21-year-old New York woman who allegedly drove into a herd of cows in Orange County, seriously injuring three of them.

Authorities say Daisy Cowit, of Wawayanda, was using her cell phone when she plowed her Jeep Liberty into the cows on Mountain Road last Monday. Six of the cows were struck, and two farm workers were nearly hit, police said.

Three of the cows had to undergo emergency surgery for their injuries; they survived.

Cowit was charged with reckless endangerment, criminal mischief and reckless driving. She also faces charges of driving while using a cell phone and failure to exercise due care, both traffic infractions.

It wasn't immediately clear if Cowit had a lawyer.

I’m calling bs on this one. When you see names like this, I have to believe they made the story up. First “Daisy” is a name often associated with cows, including the Borden’s Milk cow. Then the last name “Cowit”.

It just reeks of “slow news day and we have to write something”. Even the picture doesn’t convince me. That could be a stock photo from a domestic violence case.

i agree with you... even the name of the town she is from is too ridiculous to be true... Wawayanda!

Yup, you get a Kewpie doll.

The story is not very clear. The only reason I could think of is a broken fence. With two farm hands near by, they may have been trying to get the cattle back into the pasture.

In this instance, I think that would be "cs."

And what about you, "OrangeHoof," commenting on a story about cows in Orange County, New York?

Yes the cows were in the road, that actually happens sometimes in cow country. It also might be a horse or a tractor, that’s why you keep your eyes on the road, not on your phone.
