'I'm not here to be preaching hate, pushing people down'

God “absolutely” approves of everyone — including homosexuals — declared one of America’s most well-known evangelical pastors

The Houston megapastor and best-selling author Joel Osteen, whose followers include the likes of Cher and Oprah Winfrey, is hitting the talk-show circuit to promote his new book, “Break Out!

HuffPo Live host Josh Zepps quoted from Osteen’s new book: “It doesn’t matter who likes you or who doesn’t like you, all that matters is God likes you. He accepts you, he approves of you.”

Zepps followed up by asking if that included homosexuals.

Pastor Joel Osteen

“Absolutely,” Osteen insisted, “I believe that God has breathed his life into every single person. We’re all on a journey. Nobody’s perfect.”

However....

FTA:

Osteen has said numerous times that he believes living a homosexual lifestyle is a sin in accordance with his understanding of Christian scripture.

“I believe the scripture says that being gay is a sin. But, you know, every time I say that, Chris … people say, well, you are a gay hater and you’re a gay basher,” Osteen told Wallace during the interview. “I’m not. I don’t – I don’t dislike anybody. Gays are some of the nicest, kindest, most loving people in the world. But my faith is based on what I believe the scripture says, and that’s the way I read the scripture.”

Love the sinner, hate the sin.

Could be standard Christian Dogma. Though stated in a disturbingly cryptic way.

Osteen MIGHT have continued by saying that while God loves all whom He has created, He does NOT approve of the gay lifestyle, or pedophilia, or infidelity or any number of behaviors of His beloved children.

Those words don’t appear in the Bible, though.

Separated at birth from Jerry Seinfeld.

The Missus and I used to listen to Joel Osteen regularly a few years ago, every sunday, just before going to “real” church.

It’s not that what he said was counter to Scripture...it’s that he didn’t tell the whole story. It’s like a steady diet of only Twinkies. Tasty for a short while, but unfulfilling and unhealthy.

Ever hear him mention Jesus? I can’t recall him ever really talking about Jesus Christ, salvation, the alternative to salvation, etc.

But I believe every person is made in the image of God, and you have accept them as they are, on their journey. I’m not here to be preaching hate, pushing people down. I’m not here telling people what they’re doing wrong.

Translation: I'm not here to preach God's word.

Pretty sound generic Christian thinking:

God loves the sinner, but hates the sin.

I don’t know of a Church (Catholic, Protestant, or other) that disagrees with this, except the Westboro Baptists.

I look at homosexuality as no better or worse than any other sin. For instance, if I knew of someone who was a serial shoplifter, I wouldn’t shout them down and denounce them in the street, but on the other side of the coin I wouldn’t excuse their behavior by saying, “Well that’s just how God made them....” or “The church better stop preaching that stealing is a sin, because we don’t want to scare away shoplifters and their families who might get offended.”

God breathed life in Adam and Eve..they SINNED and therefore we are consieved in sin and born into sin

Ps 51:5 Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.

When we become a Christian we are now the home of the Holy Spirit, a NEW breath of life that is now spoken into our souls.

A waste of time. After all, nothing that you do or do not do will cause God to cease to accept you and approve of you.

Therefore, do as thou wilt.

See how easy it is to get from Joel Osteen to Anton LeVay?

a system of symbols which acts to establish powerful, pervasive, and long-lasting moods in men by formulating conceptions of a general order of existence and clothing those conceptions with such an aura of factuality that the moods and motivations seem uniquely realistic.

Scripture’s clear on this topic,

but, it seems, since it is in opposition to what the current politically correct viewpoint is,

it must be abandoned and dismissed.
