I live in Rochester, but didn't see a word about this in the local press. Thanks for posting.
Coincidentally, I just finished a book about the Marines at the "Frozen Chosin."
I highly recommend it ...

It was the 2nd time I read it. Even as VN combat vet I’m still stunned by what they went through.

Thank you for your service.
My siblings and I, enjoy history and books. When one of us finds a good book, we read it then take to next get together and pass it on. Eventually like tools the book finds it way home. So after couple of months or years it is time to read again.

Great idea! I have five siblings ... wonder why we never thought of that.
P.S. Thanks, it was an honor to serve - would do it again in a heartbeat.

....wonder why we never thought of that.
That is why you come to Freerepublic for all the great ideas.
None of us can think of all the great ideas, we would never accomplish anything else.
So we spread the thinking out amongst many and pass on the good ideas.

It was the 2nd time I read it. Even as VN combat vet Im still stunned by what they went through. I was one of the lucky ones who was never ordered to Southeast Asia so I have no first hand experience of combat. But having been assigned to Army hospitals I surely heard some stories....and saw some wounds. If forced to choose I'm not sure if I'd pick heat and humidity or snow, ice and frostbite.
IMO Truman made a huge mistake not threatening to use nukes in Korea.Yes,the Ruskies had just developed them too but Truman could have said to them "you stay on the sidelines and you'll have nothing to fear...but if you wanna mix it up with us,be our guests".But then I never rose above SP5 so maybe my opinion doesn't mean much.

IMO Truman made a huge mistake not threatening to use nukes in Korea.I was on an 8" howitzer up on the DMZ and we were nuclear capable.
Don't know if any nuke rounds were in country, but we were ready to "pull the pin."

Many of the Gunnies when I went through Quantico in 68 were WWII and Korea vets..Most said they’d rather have invaded another Jap held island than gone through North Korea.

My battery gunny in ‘Nam made the Inchon landing AND the Chosin Reservoir. Didn't know that until our 3rd or 4th reunion ... and it was his wife who told me.
Only after boo-koo beers will he mention it, but never in any real detail. He gets the 1000 yard stare and just says it was hell like you wouldn't believe.
