BALTIMORE (WJZ)—It’s a horrific story of man’s best friend becoming a woman’s worst nightmare. A Northeast Baltimore woman was attacked and killed by her own dog.

Rochelle Ritchie reports the pit bull had attacked before but was back in the owner’s custody.

Advocates say the attack should not have happened. The woman had a huge gash on her face from a previous attack from her dog.

Terry Douglass, 56, is the latest victim in Baltimore City to be killed by a pit bull, a dog she’s raised since it was a puppy.

You didn’t bother to read the article at all did you? And I have looked up the history of the animal and I unlike you apparently have contact with a wide variety of pits almost daily. Your logic is poor. As I wrote to another with Pit phobia using your logic we should eliminate police because weekly if not daily we see stories of “some” police killing or beating people out of hand without provocation, or is only logic that we should apply to animals?

Never a cop around when you need one.

News stories about pit bulls are like stories about the clap, rarely anything good.

I agree. Look up the history of the pit bull terrier some time. They were initially bred to be hunter-killers. They still are.

So were Rhodesian Ridgebacks and they still are but are also fantastic family pets. Look it up.

almost daily he posted an article about a pit bull killing or mauling a kid or senior citizen...he didn’t find all the articles himself. I freepmailed him to ask and he said most were freepmailed by other freepers to himi that didn’t want to get into the hate fest of pit owners that followed defending the attacks as the owners fault.

I have two cockers. They both made a mistake growling at me, once.

They know we are always buddies and they can do whatever they want aand even have run of the house as far as I’m concerned but, when I deliver a command I’m in charge.

It will keep them safe, keep them alive and keep everyone safe.

Sit! Don’t even think of moving until I give you the release command.

Heel! I’m not joking and I better not have to chase you down.

Lay down! I’ve had enough of your barking or jumping on me or others.

I even feed them jerky’s forcing them to take it without biting. I hate it when a dog chomps down with no regard for who is handing it to them.

Other than that, they can run all over empty both their toy chests and make me scratch them where they itch or rub their ears.

Little babies.

Think I’ll take em to the beach Friday.

Really? I've owned 9 dogs and none have been vicious.

Are you intentionally missing the point?

Would your dog not defend you if you were attacked?

I am pretty sure that my that my dog would tare somebody up that attacked me being the vicious animal that he is at his essence.

Poor misunderstood little Pitt Bulls! Tear apart a few too many children and adults, year in and year out - and now people don’t realize how wonderful they really are.

Garbage breed.

Yep.

I spent hours with my dogs before deciding they were the right one.

I’m just glad they’re not katz.

Otherwise I would be working for them.

Still feels like I constantly do stuff for them. Not sure if I’m just amusing myself or they really like all the goofy things I do.

A 65 year-old Spanaway, Washington (just outside of Tacoma) woman has died today from her injuries from two pit-bulls. Nga Woodhead died from a heart attack which may have been related to her injuries which included a broken arm and lacerations. Police are waiting confirmation by autopsy that the injuries were related to the dog attacks.

Police say the woman went through surgery to have a titanium rod placed in her arm. She was just about to be released from St. Joseph's Hospital when she collapsed from a heart attack.

She was attacked October 30th while on her daily walk. It took three men to fend the dogs off of her after they also suffered bites leading one man to shoot one of them, which ran away. A witness, Alana Hall, described the scene, "One dog was hanging onto one person's arm and then onto one person's leg." Police tracked down both dogs and shot both of them.

The owner of the dogs, Santiago Quezada, does not know how the dogs got out of his fenced yard.

Santiago Quezada's fenced yard.

Sometimes even smart people can be dumb when it comes to the Breed-Of-Peace.

I know a gal, MIT electrical engineer... bought a friggin Pitt Bull for a pet. STUPID

I had a bad encounter with a Pitt, with the aid of a 1911 45cal it was dispatched to doggie hell...good riddance.

I would like to think so, but......Irish Setters, English Setters and Springers aren't noted for their aggressive or protective nature.

Neither are Chocolate Labs but if a stranger comes to the door I have to hold him back and lock him in the bathroom just to be sure. He goes nuts; hair on the back stands up, he barks and bares his teeth. Its rather intimidating if nothing else. But I won’t risk his biting so I lock him up.

I just looked up Chet 99’s posting history. Of the last 50 articles he posted there was only 1 article concerning a pitbull attack.

Anyone who needs to defend the pitbull breed in my experience is one of three types of people, if it’s a guy, one with an extremely small penis and a huge ego, overcompensating, #2 a ghetto black, or #3 a woman living in a trailer park with an IQ of 85 and a substance abuse problem. Educate yourself, pitbulls were bred for aggression...duh, they have a bite pressure in the top 10 of all breeds including in that list a wolf and a police trained German shepherd. Of course some of them are sweet and can lick the skin off your face, but all it takes is something to trigger those hundreds of years of selective breeding, a small child squealing and running, a helpless handicap person who pets them the wrong way. Now let’s go over this again...if a cocker spaniel loses its temper you get a nasty bite maybe requiring stiches, a pitbull loses it and you could end up in the morgue. They instinctively are BRED to go for your face and neck. IT’S WHY THEY ARE BRED FOR BLOODY COMBAT. Do the world a favor stop trying to convince the other sane members of the human race that the world is flat and pitbulls make great family pets. Its just idiocy. If there was an ONLY kill shelter exterminating pitbulls I would contribute handsomely to it. This breed needs to go away. Oh and whomever tried to make a stupid comparison.. Rhodesian Ridgebacks...for which I have one were bred to hunt lions, not bred to fight each other and other dogs. Pitbulls have serious genetic issues with aggression, too many to breed out at this point.

I to have been viciously licked and loved by them!

Some psychology as to why pit bull owners come up with their drivel to defend their vicious pets.

How come pit bull owners say, "My dog might lick you to death." To understand the experience of owning a negatively perceived dog, Tufts Center for Animals and Public Policy did a study on pit bull owners. Researchers found that owners of out-law dog breeds directly feel the stigma targeted at their breed and resort to various tactics to lessen it. One of the tactics included attempts to counterbalance the pit bull's menacing appearance and physical power with overwhelming "affectionate" behavior, such as: "My dog might lick you to death
From dogsbite.org

Pop psychology to be sure, but probably more than a little true.

I feel bad that the woman died but not that she was stupid to keep such a dog after having previous encounters.

It is not the breed but the breeders that are the problem

I think the dogbite website Is a very interesting resource for those who are actually rational about dogs. In reality pit bull owners probably aren't any more irrational about their dogs than any other group of vicious animal owners, but just about every one of the irrational posts defending the breed I've seen on these threads is shot down on the web site. Interesting read.

Myth #1: It's the owner not the breed The outdated debate, "It's the owner, not the breed," has caused the pit bull problem to grow into a 30-year old problem.1 Designed to protect pit bull breeders and owners, the slogan ignores the genetic history of the breed and blames these horrific maulings -- inflicted by the pit bull's genetic "hold and shake" bite style -- on environmental factors. While environment plays a role in a pit bull's behavior, it is genetics that leaves pit bull victims with permanent and disfiguring injuries.

The pit bull's genetic traits are not in dispute. Many appellate courts agree that pit bulls pose a significant danger to society and can be regulated accordingly. Some of the genetic traits courts have identified include: unpredictability of aggression, tenacity ("gameness" the refusal to give up a fight), high pain tolerance and the pit bull's "hold and shake" bite style.2 According to forensic medical studies, similar injuries have only been found elsewhere on victims of shark attacks.

Perpetuators of this myth also cannot account for the many instances in which pit bull owners and family members are victimized by their pet dogs. From 2005 to 2012, pit bulls killed 151 Americans, about one citizen every 19 days. Of these deaths, 52% involved a family member and a household pit bull.4 Notably, in the first 8 months of 2011, nearly half of those killed by a pit bull was its owner. One victim was an "avid supporter" of Bad Rap, a recipient of Michael Vick's dogs
