Bill De Blasio, the first Democrat elected mayor of New York City in a generation, is a Massachusetts-raised former supporter of the communist Sandinistas who married a lesbian poet.
And he's a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan.
De Blasio's path to becoming the leader of America's largest city was unorthodox - especially compared with his Democratic predecessors.
He rose up the ranks of Democratic politics. He worked as a junior aide to the last Democratic mayor, David Dinkins. He served in the Clinton Administration and ran Hillary Clinton's 2000 bid for the U.S. Senate. He served three years as a Democrat on the City Council.
But he is not necessarily a product of the party political machine like previous Democratic mayors - in part because that machinery no longer exists in the way it once did.

Wow, it appears that New Yorkers, in their infinite wisdom, have voted in the David Dinkins era redux.
Better them than me and mine. It might be a good time to begin planning an exit from New York for those of you who are NY residents.

Cuba for his honeymoon and traveled to the Soviet Union during Reagan’s presidency. NYC deserves this bum....move over Detroit.
You are right. I meant to say, places like NYC, San Fran, and even LA. That is, where the democrats have such majorities and their voters tend to vote D no matter who is on the ballot.

I feel for you. I have lived in areas where I am literally surrounded by liberals. Not at your scale, but still. It is amazing to see them justify themselves. Especially when they try to make themselves sound smarter than they truly are.
