[re: TED CRUZ] What drove JAY LENO to the Dark Side? Bribes, blackmail, assimilated by the BORG?
Senator Ted Cruz on the "Tonight Show with Jay Leno" [Live Thread] ^ | November 10, 2013 | RonDog

Posted on 11/10/2013 8:54:11 PM PST by RonDog

Calling all CREATIVE FReepers:
I need YOUR help!

I'm working on the "after action" thread for our recent "Tonight Show" FReep, and
what I'm looking for is the "perfect" METAPHOR
to describe what happened to the generally affable Jay Leno
to cause him to transform into such a PARTISAN HACK.

Here's SOME of what I have been brainstorming:
Dr. Jekyll becomes Mr. Hyde
Anakin Skywalker goes to the Dark Side
Stepford Wives
ZOMBIES
demon-possessed
"They got to him."
assimilated by the BORG
black-mail
Invasion of the Body Snatchers
Manchurian Candidate
Robert the Bruce betrays William Wallace
Charlie Gibson condescends to Sarah Palin
Candy Crowley sandbags Mitt Romney

So far, NONE OF THESE capture EXACTLY
the way that Jay's interview with Senator Ted Cruz made me feel.

What do YOU think?

For EXTRA CREDIT,
what movie hero best describes TED CRUZ?

Arguing with a liberal is like chasing a roach around the kitchen counter.

Hi, SoConPubbie!

Would you please PING your "Ted Cruz" list to this thread?

I know that this is MUCH less "serious" than your usual fare,
but I really think that we need to "control the narrative" --
since, in the words of Andrew Breitbart, "Politics is downstream from culture."
Thank you.

I thought the entire episode was a disaster...Leno was like a machine gun, working from a list, obviously compiled by a bunch of his leftist looney-tune cohorts..he barely had time to came up for air. Cruz was calm in the face of leno’s attacks, but hardly had the ability to shine under such uncalled for circumstances. It made me uncomfortabe just viewing this. You can put a fork in leno as far as I’m concerned.

Leno looked like a desperate man. What was it that had his underwear in knots? He looked hell bent on sticking it to Cruz in a social situation. Very weird viewing. Like, trying his best to demonize the opposition, when the incumbents are such incompetent boobs. Anyone with half an education can see exactly what Leno was trying to do.

I've only watched two segments of Leno in the past five years, this past one with Cruz, and another with Dennis Miller.

Dennis, being more familiar with the media stage, knowing what he was going to get, absolutely destroyed Leno's idiot leftist constructs when he tried to put them by him. He ridiculed Leno in the finest manner. It was hilarious to watch Leno's face drop in defeat.

Cruz did well, but will have to understand the attacks that will come in a clear way. I have faith he will learn well, he actually carried himself fine, bringing Leno to a draw, but he has to understand that people like Leno are inviting him on to destroy him and plan how to deliver his message in the face of that kind of evil.

Leno can’t hang with his wife and friends if he doesn’t come in like a ball breaker onto the heinous Tea Party Ted Cruz. His tolerant liberal friends couldn’t tolerate it if he treated Ted Cruz as a human being. If he showed even the slightest respect or kindness, as he does with bit actresses and dog and pony shows, he would be thrown out of Hollywood onto his chin.

I’m saying that I was in the studio audience when Jay interviewed Sarah Palin (once) and Ann Coulter (twice),
and I did not recognize the Jay Leno that I saw reading Obama talking points at Ted Cruz last Friday.

I never ever saw Leno quite that rough on anyone ever. It was clear he was instructed not to let up or show any humanity. He was reading from a sheet or card and just kept returning to it like a guy with a knife hanging over his head.

I don’t think it was by his NBC bosses; I don’t think he gives a poop about them. I think it might have been from wife and friends, social pressure.

Notice the "cue card" on Leno's desk? Does he usually have it there or was it from some other bit?

I've never seen him use a talking points "prop" like that.

Leno was an ass. Not as big of an ass as Letterman was to Limbaugh, but pretty close.

Why invite someone on to a "comedy show" and turn it into Crossfire?

My thought, exactly!
There already are enough "political" shows out there. :(

No harm, no foul. I thought it was great that Leno “challenged” Cruz (what a joke!). It gave Cruz a chance to explain to a nationwide audience what he was doing and why. Those questions may have seemed tough and unfair to some of our Freepers, but to Cruz, they were softball lobs, which he regularly hit out of the park. Leno did him a big favor with those questions. Do you think he is a secret Cruz in ‘16 supporter?

I don't watch the "Tonight Show" often enough to speak with authority on this...
...but it did seem very "out of character" for Jay to be constantly INTERRUPTING Senator Cruz...
...and ZINGING him with obviously prepared "gotcha" statements, and clearly leftist talking points.

...I think it might have been from his wife and friends, social pressure.

Mavis Leno could be PART of the problem.

From WND.com:

How the Lenos' 'help' actually harms women
Exclusive: Jill Stanek targets Jay and Mavis over fundraiser for feminist group

In 2005, Jay Leno’s wife, Mavis, told the Detroit Free Press:

"Our current conservative, religious government is obsessed with women on life support and with fetuses because they are imaginary people..."
...So Leno can spare me her words of concern for the plight of oppressed women in Afghanistan,
which is why she says she is hosting a Hollywood fundraiser for the Feminist Majority Foundation (FMF)
on April 29 with her soon-to-be NBC prime-time player husband, Jay.
One right they want is for Afghan women to be free to abort. Crazy.
Mavia [sp] Leno is a long-time board member of FMF, which was founded and is headed
by former National Organization for Women President Eleanor Smeal. FMF took over Ms. Magazine in 2001.

Of course, FMF supports abortion on demand, even issuing a congratulatory e-mail when infamous late-term abortionist
George Tiller was acquitted of criminal charges last month and encouraging followers to

"Send Dr. Tiller a message of support for all his work for women!"
FMF sends "community organizers" throughout the country to train abortion mill deathscorts. It supports taxpayer-funded abortion.

FMF promoted access for both men and women to purchase the morning-after pill without a prescription
and is now pushing for minor boys and girls to have the same access. It opposes parental involvement laws before abortion for minors...

Mavis Leno could be PART of the problem...
Except that she is not NEW...

From marriage.about.com:

Jay and Mavis were married in a small wedding at a friends' home on November 30, 1980...
That is, Jay was already married to Mavis for a long time
when he interviewed conservatives Ann Coulter and Sarah Palin - much more professionally.

...and will now post from this transcript EXTENSIVELY, to prove my point. :)

Leno continually told ‘stupid Bush’ jokes. There was one of those quips in every monologue.

His Obama jokes are not about stupidity.

My idea is to tag the voters:

Did you hear about the Obama voter who locked his keys in his car?

He had to use a coat hanger to get his family out.
