Animal Rights Activist, 31 of Her Dogs Found Dead in Garage ('No Kill' Shelter Director)

An Ohio woman who lived much of her life as an animal lover may have died a dog killer.

Sandra Lertzman, 62, was found dead along with 31 of her dogs, many of them puppies, in a running car in the garage of her Moreland Hills home on Monday.

Investigators told WOIO that they found a suicide note in the house and several prescription vials in the vehicle. It wasn’t clear how she and the pups died.

One of the dogs managed to survive by finding a small opening in the garage where it could breathe, authorities said.

Lertzman was the executive director of the Animal Rights Foundation and, according to the group’s website, had been involved in animal rescue for almost 40 years.

“She was an animal lover. She feeds deer, dogs. She boarded dogs several years ago," a neighbor, who did not want to be identified, told WOIO.

There were also several cats inside the house that have been taken in by a caretaker. The lone surviving pooch was given to a family member.

“She was an animal lover"

Sounds like she loved power just as Jim Jones did.

She was just another nutty pet-lady.

Which of course is what we’re now all supposed to be, since human children will be forbidden to most of us in the new Obama utopia.

Dennis Prager didn’t cover this case or any extreme behavior, just noted some woman who tried to rescue EVERY stray dog.

He cited a biblical verse about not being able to save the world. He uses it in his own life to accept that it is impossible to protect/rescue everything/one. Not that one should not be generous, charitable, thankful, etc. but to realize that there are limitations of what can be accomplished by one person.

I know a woman who sits at curbs for weeks at a time to try to eventually feed, then get stray bario dogs off the street. In a similar circumstance, one of the feral dogs attacked another woman who was doing the same sort of thing.

And meanwhile there are humans who are neglected daily or sent off to die in abortuaries.

She MAY have injected them with “pink death” chemistry to euthanize the dogs but likely the did die of air pollution. She may have also laced their drinking water with the same pills she likely consumed.

Actually, I find this story to be very sad! She obviously cared greatly about animals, as do I. Wonder what drove her to this desperate finish?

Sad, really. Might have been a decent animal loving woman. Perhaps she did all she could but ran out of money and the will to live after reviewing her Obamacare options.

I’m not clear on the puppies...was she breeding? Or were they all rescues? My friend once volunteered for a local Humane Society shelter, took some pregnant doggie girls home and helped them thru their pregnancies and deliveries, took them back to be adopted.

Pregnancy is so passe among the Left.

Dog abortions? So terribly sad...those little natural mommie dogs must have felt rotten afterward.

I would vote for birth control of some kind for wild horses, however. Shots that sterilize, perhaps. Horses are being murdered without mercy by the BLM, an outfit I equate with the least civilized savages on the planet — i.e., poachers in Zimbabwe who murdered 300 PROTECTED elephants for their tusks last month, which they sell to the Chinese.

No excuse for cruelty. Ever.

Yes. There are those who claim to feel so much for human beings but scorn this woman.

Her family is grieving. Not a time to throw stones. Obviously a desperate moment in a woman’s life. It’s a sad thing.

Dog abortions are forced abortions. Not consensual and you are correct that the animals may feel violated, some of the nurturing instinct has to kick in.

She fits the classic definition of a hoarder.

Older.

Female.

Single.

Way too many animals for one person to reasonably care for. We’re talking about pet animals that are companion animals designed for closer relationships with people, you can’t have that with 31 dogs and several cats.

The stress got to her and she took them all out with her.

Sad, and sick and arrogant to think she had to kill them because nobody else could do as good a job with them as her.
