According to the Worldwatch Institute, the US Department of Agriculture Secretary, Tom Vilsack, is pushing for an increase of the current maximum of 10.2% ethanol in gasoline to 15-20%. Much of that is supposed to come from corn and, later, from cellulose (wood).
Under the current federal “Renewable Fuel Standard” the US is already slated to increase its use of biofuels from 9 billion gallons in 2008 to 36 billion gallons by 2022. That standard does not even include the proposed increase of the ethanol content of common gasoline.
The proposed revision would be a really bad idea and let me tell you why.

We have plenty of oil. It works very well, it’s relatively inexpensive—and most late model cars spew much fewer emissions into the air.
Familiar story. Those carburetor diaphragms only last me one season now. And ethanol has in one way or another screwed up my chainsaw, weedeater, push mower, riding mower, generator.
Its hard to keep up.
My favorite was the fuel line in my car...rusted from the inside out. Replacing that was a bundle of fun.
I’m lucky that there aren’t vehicle inspections in my state. I’ve got a minor fleet of old cars, and I doubt any of them have functioning O2 sensors.
I just can’t wait until they put even more of this junk in our fuel.
A couple forums are mentioning BP stations having a separate pump for that.
They’re not extremely far away so we’ll check them out this summer.
I’d like to get hold of the bastard that thought all this up and hitch him up to my trailer hitch and give him a 5 wheel tow for about an hour.
I view the modern green movement as the blood leeching of our time. We look back at that practice, and can’t comprehend how sensible people would buy into it. Future generations will look at us that way.

I thank GOD that I had the good sense back in 2010 to buy a diesel fueled car rather than the choices of gas or hybrid! Yes, the government could very well futz with that, it is the government after all! I won’t say that I saw this coming but it was in the back of my mind!
Those people aren’t trying to drive their vehicles for 100,000 miles or more. They go through an over haul every race, sometimes their engines only last a couple of races before they are no good. So your attempt at equating them isn’t good Bob.

All true. But, when have facts ever stopped a cram-down from this bunch of autocrats?
My family drives 3 cars, one is 10 years old. We have used E10 for about 8 years (mandated back then by a Republican controlled state government) and I have never, ever had a problem related to the fuel line of any kind or any other issue that might possibly be related to the fuel. I know this because none of the cars have required any repairs (except for when I got rear ended by a bunch of illegal Mexicans or a rock hits the windshield, etc. ) or early replacement of filters, etc.
And, speaking of water, I also fly a small plane that normally uses 100 octane gasoline. (Occaisonally if I can find it I can use regular premium car gasoline that does not have ethanol added.) One thing we have to do before taking off is to check and see if there is any water in the fuel tanks. Usually there isn’t, but occaisonally there is. And that is in 100 octane gasoline or non ethanol car gas.
I do not like the idea of gov’t mandating what type of fuel we use but my personal experience with my cars after long term use is that E10 does not cause any engine or other mechanical problems.

An internal combustion engine, with modifications, will run perfectly well on alcohol, the active (and combustible)component of vodka.
Corn used to make ethanol should be limited only to making whiskey (or “moonshine”). That it was also a motor fuel was just a plus for the “moonshine runners”, giving them the performance boost they needed to outrun the “revenooers”.
The gasoline available at the time, about 67-octane rating, rather limited the power available even on a Ford V-8, as the compression ration was only about 6.5:1, while the ethanol added to the fuel raised the octane rating to 100+, and allowed the compression ratio to be raised to about 9.0:1, and increasing horsepower from a rated 65 HP to maybe 120 HP. The moonshine runners were also hot rodders.
I have used Sea Foam too. This is more readily available. Sea Foam is mostly available at marine stores.
I reckon we’ve just had really lousy luck.
If you like your lawnmower, you can keep your lawnmower. Period.
We had the same fuel line issue with the Yukon.
First the line was frozen from all the water and when we replaced it, it was rusted rotten inside.
Coulda been worse... We thought the engine had seized.
Oddly enough that happened right after Himself accidentally filled it with Flexfuel.
