In the French Quarter, the government advisory warns travelers to not go beyond northwestern Dauphine Street and northeast Ursulines Ave.

If travelers are in the Garden District, they say not to travel north of St. Charles Avenue or south of Magazine Street.

I wonder if it’s the same in other cities or just New Orleans.

I want to go back again to see the D Day museum when the expansion is completed. I think that is to be done next year.

Like most other famous tourist areas the French Quarter is vastly over rated. It’s a crime ridden crap hole filled with kindergarten quality “artists”, ghetto children street “performers”, and vermin infested restaurants that somehow maintain “famous” status. Plus the place smells like vomit and bum piss.

I enjoy watching the coffins rise out of the ground during major rainfalls. I enjoy watching the cops grab their payoffs from the drug kingpins punk, I love the smell of raw urine flowing freely down Bourbon St. I really love the exit signs in my rear view mirror. Town is a dump and nobody really gives a damn unless they aren’t getting some free money from the government. Place is a rats paradise and I shall now turn in my resignation from the N.O. Visitors Bureau

I like New Orleans and have enjoyed my visits there over the years.

But, anyone who has been there knows most of the city is the equivalent of an open sewer.

That’s commonplace in Mexico City.
Has been for decades.

Been going to NO for years, absolutely know the boundaries, especially after dark. But you are generally safe to Jackson Square on the east, further than Pat O’Briens. Don’t be cheap, and get a cab late in the evening. After Midnight, even the heart of the Quarter is dangerous. People have been killed on Bourbon after 12.

I guess the French haven’t been infected by PC. You could never say that in the USA or be called racist.

The French would rather keep their citizens safe and to hell with PC.

In the USA, you will be sacrificed on the altar of political correctness before anyone will issue a warning about heavily minority areas being dangerous.

> The warnings essentially read to stay out of Black areas.

Yep. And if you’rewhite and caught in those areas don’t expect any sympathy from the black officers that work those areas.

There are some pretty rough neighborhoods in close proximity to the French Quarter. It’s easy for a slightly inebriated tourist to get disoriented and wander into trouble. Especially after dark.

Wife and I were there for a few days last February. The oysters and shrimp were excellent.

Heard on the news yesterday that there are three areas in Houston they are recommending people not visit. Generally agreed with them.

“Show me someone who wants to vacation in New Orleans and I will show you someone who has never been there.”

I lived and worked in New Orleans. You are safe if you know where not to go. I knew where not to go. If you do not know where to go, you can get dead very quickly.

However, I stay armed even in the safe areas, just in case.

The French website explicitly warned about going to Anacostia, either day or night.

Charleston has its own particular charm, but it is a bit different. Since NOLA was and is far larger and with a heavy French influence, there’s a lot more to see (and it wasn’t substantially damaged during the Civil War). Where they are similar is the large Black population and underclass.

Yes, since there are some arrondissements that have been taken over by the feral Mohammadans. Fortunately, from what I understand, these are not “historic” areas, but more like the equivalent of Cabrini-Green style hellholes.
