Introducing The World's First Radio Search Engine [maybe not the FIRST but definitely cool]
Michael Robertson ^ | Michael Robertson

Posted on 11/17/2013 3:43:24 AM PST by markomalley

I just launched a beta version of RadioSearchEngine.com - the world's first radio search engine. There are other directories of A-Z lists of radio stations, but this is the first search engine where any song or artist can be located on stations playing from anywhere in the world. A universal web player for the first time connects to and plays nearly every station offering immediate audio satisfaction and unprecedented user control.

Uses:

radiosearchengine.com - Play local stations, locate trending songs and popular shows
radiosearchengine.com/search/metallica - Get a list every Metallica song playing on radio
radiosearchengine.com/search/katy-perry-roar - List all stations playing Katy Perry's Roar
radiosearchengine.com/search/beatles - Listen to any Beatles song being broadcast
radiosearchengine.com/search/chill - Find a list of songs playing on top chill stations
radiosearchengine.com/search/country - Find a list of songs playing on top country stations

Every popular radio hit is just a click away. Charts track the most played songs broadcast on radio in popular genres, all of which are playable. A growing number of internet-only stations makes every style of music from the billboard hits to the most eclectic easily locatable and playable. Tens of thousands of stations are scanned every 3-5 seconds to get the currently playing song. This index is used to construct a real-time library of ever changing music on the radio, all of which searchable. Search for songs, artists, station names, genres, talk shows or podcasts. It's the biggest single audio library of popular content.

Listeners are presented with an array of listening options that invite them to move smoothly between a no effort radio experience or a near-demand experience. When a song is played, additional tunes playing on radio by that artist are listed and playable. A recommendation engine identifies 20 similar songs likely of interest. A chart ranks other popular songs in that genre. A traditional skip button advances to a new related song. Together these options allow listeners to fine tune their audio experience from hands-off radio to playing just old favorites or new hits. Unlike other radio services, there's no limit on fast-forwarding, plus users can search for and play specific songs.

A beta version of RadioSearchEngine is available immediately to all users. An overview video is available here. More information about the service can be found at RadioSearchEngine.com.

I've been working on this new service for nearly a year and excited to unveil it to the world and hope you'll check it out!

While this may not be "the first", it is a pretty cool URL and, from the little bit of playing I did with it, it appears to work as advertised.

Not listing all the stations in Pittsburgh. Renda stations - WSHH & WJAS -they may not be netcasting. Also MIA is 92.9 - used to be WLTJ but not sure of the calls now. KQV 1410 AM all news as well and there may be others.

Just letting ya know. Very cool project. Looking forward to checking it out more when I get the chance.

I will check this out. Really cool is that it is all the stations in the world. It would go well with TuneIn radio probably

Folks who listen to classic country will find out there are classic country stations in Norway (which has a following for US country music) and Iceland

There's a radio station that I fell in love with over the course of years of vacationing on Hatteras Island, and that would be WVOD (”Voice Of Dare, “ Dare County, NC). It's in Manteo, it's fairly laid back during business hours, a mix of popular, older and obscure, a mix of alt rock, classic rock, folk rock, occasional reggae, occasional Celtic, just a nice mix and never too over the top for the office. After office hours it reverts to what I recall from the early days of FM, adventurous, exploring a genre thoroughly or a musician thoroughly, always surprising with very knowledgeable DJ’s whose musical tastes are very much a part of their show. Me, an aficionado of college radio stations, I like to be exposed to new music by knowledgeable people, all sorts of music, and I actually really like a commercial station, this one, WVOD, “The Sound,” 99.1 FM.

From car commercials, where someone can request artist/group, I assume that there are proprietary versions. Is there a potential for similar application for when on the road, but not wanting such proprietary systems?

Very cool. I searched for a fairly old band, and found them being played in Singapore.

Worked fine here.

Might depend on operating system, and what you’re listening to.

(maybe music, has a deeper demand than voice)

I was listening to talk radio just now, it didn’t have even one issue in about 2 1/2 hours of listening.

Are you listening to a music station?

Maybe that is the difference.

It looks interesting, but I've tried a few searches for music but have so far come up empty. First, I tried to find a station playing George Olsen & His Music. No station was playing any of their tunes at the time, but I was presented a list of stations where the group might be heard. But I came up with nothing when I searched for stations playing Paul Whiteman, Waring's Pennsylvanians or The Coon-Sanders Nighthawks

Holy carp! This is FANTASTIC! I just used it (*BTW*...using W7 and Chrome)...found out there are a LOT of radio stations across America playing Christmas music.

When I first pulled it up, I saw stations in my local area....and I found stations I didn’t know existed.

Is it alright to share this?
