Word For The Day, Tuesday, November 19, 2013 – comeuppance


In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

comeuppance; noun: a deserved rebuke or penalty : deserts Examples of COMEUPPANCE

One of these days, he'll get his comeuppance for treating people so arrogantly. comeuppance 1859, presumably rooted in come up "present oneself for judgment before a tribunal." •

Seems like it would be a lot simpler if we could just grow food.

Well, we sort of do-we call them “food crops” if we can eat part or all of the plant/tree/bush-the catch is that most have to be grown and harvested first...

I can’t really picture a whiskey tree/bush-would it grow little airplane flight bottles like flowers or fruit?

Actually, if we wanted to start growing ready-made food and alcoholic beverages, we’d probably be better off with a Star Trek type food replicator...
