Lye Soap (opinions needed)

A friend makes lye soap several times a year and she gave a few bars to me. All natural (she uses Crisco vegetable oil instead of lard)...and it is great as a bathing product.

Have been thinking of producing this stuff as a bidness. Have lots of connections who would sell it if a market is out there.

Women will be your target purchasers. We won’t go for anything marketed as “lye soap”, no matter how effective it might be. It just brings to mind a harsh chemical, nothing more. Add something else that’s good for the skin, like oatmeal, or shea butter. And it has to smell good.

I remember as a kid in the 50's being told that Ivory had lye in it. I think it was even advertised that way in early days. My next post confirms that Ivory still has lye in it.

I've bought bar soap all my life. Wouldn't even think of going hunting for soap like yours at 5 times the price.

Take introductory organic/inorganic chemistry at community college to get insight on your products & processes Maybe you’ll decide to make silver polish or air freshener instead

Here’s something I’ve noticed. When a woman sees a shell she has an irresistible impulse to put it on the back of the toilet.

So, make your soap in little balls, wrap them in shiny paper, and arrange them in a big sea shell.

Women will lap it up.

There are a lot of old Ivory ads on ebay.

Pure back then was vague..."like we use good stuff"...

One of the biggest things..."it floats". Boy that sells. A lot of older people are Ivory loyalists.

I've made my own soap for years. ps to all, you can't make soap of any kind without lye. I tried selling for a while in craft shops and spas. Maybe I broke even. I gave up trying to market my soaps when the government made it so difficult to buy lye.(It seems it is also essential for making meth) Of course when I stopped making volume batches, I got several requests from stores about putting a display. Maybe I just gave up too soon.
