"The Fabulous Mister Reggie".. or perhaps Russell Simmons here.... who recently claimed that "Obamacare has 'saved hundreds of thousands, if not millions of lives'...

“All those Duke kids’ families spent well into six figures on their defense(s). Incredible damage was inflicted by this woman.”

She is only half to blame. Nifong duty was to weed, and I do mean “weed” her out as creditable. Nifong knew early on she was fake but chose to run with her so he could make a name for himself. Well he did, a bad name, and now he’s lost his ability to practice law.

Certainly, I'm aware the lax players were falsely accused of rape, Nifong criminally abused his office and the campus officials and professional race baiters all jumped the gun on this. Yet, let's not overlook the fact that had the lacrosse team members gone to the gym, went to a movie or a bar, or just decided to watch TV instead of hiring strippers in the first place none of this would have gone down. I would like to think that given the opportunity to go back to that evening, they would opt to do something other than hire these *ladies* for their entertainment.

I've never been falsely accused by a stripper, nor put through a legal wringer because of said false accusations, but then again, I've never hired one...

Yup! Agreed! But she stays in prison, and hopefully, is fined into eternity!

At least two of the accused were no where near the party. A cab driver came forward on behalf of one of them. He was threatened with deportation if he didn’t shut up.

"At least two of the accused were no where near the party. A cab driver came forward on behalf of one of them."

Of course...and certainly those that weren't party to..."the party," were clearly the biggest victims of the whole mess. Even those who were present and hired Mangum were falsely accused and abused by the system; I'm not denying that. My only assertion was that had they chosen to do something more wholesome than hire strippers, they would have likely spared themselves a whole lot of trouble. While they did nothing illegal, they certainly made a poor choice. Most people, at some time during their upbringing are advised to steer clear of unseemly people; this was an object lesson in why. I suspect that most of the lax team who were involved in hiring Mangum have not troubled themselves to hire another stripper since.

Did they "deserve" to have their lives put through a wringer? No. Could they have easily avoided it altogether by not associating with such lowlifes? Easily.

So...it was their fault. Gotcha.

They belonged to a fraternity. The fraternity threw a party and hired a stripper. They didn’t attend.

I once belonged to a military unit where the bulk of those assigned regularly patronized a strip club/brothel just across the border in Poland. Along with a few of my collegues, I chose not to go. If they had been accused of misconduct should I have been subjected as well?

“She’s an honor to her race. Obama should be proud,”

Really? For her whole race?

That’s a pretty broad brush...

No doubt the powers-that-be at Duke are extremely upset. Within a day or so, Duke will announce that a scholarship and an endowed professorship has been established in her name. Feeling that it cannot be seen as a slacker in these matters, UNC-CH will announce that a building on the Chapel Hill campus has been renamed in the woman's honor.

Yup. In his biggest reach for a rhyme: “Don’t strip; scholarship.” What a dope.

Yea and one dude was cleared because of an ATM camera that took his pic at the time of the so called “rape”.

Also look that the fact the whole team got their pic posted all over campus by some professor who had their knickers in a wad. The whole team was not at the party, just a few of the players. The whole team ended up suffering.

Oh, grow up and read what I wrote. Did I ever say it was their fault? Nope. Did I say the treatment they received was undeserved? Yep. But for those that attended the party, or had a hand in hiring the strippers, was it avoidable? Yep. Did I say associating with strippers and people of that ilk is a bad idea? Yep. And I would bet those on the lax team would agree with me on that point now.

"The whole team was not at the party, just a few of the players. The whole team ended up suffering."

Well then, I guess the object lesson here might be that when you make a morally impaired decision like hiring a couple strippers and inviting them into your residence to perform, there just might be some unexpected consequences not just for you, but the other people that live there, your family and your friends.

Again, and I really weary of people on this board who don't read, or read and don't comprehend, I've in no way excused Mangum, Nifong or the university faculty and admin from their role in this circus...but let's not lose sight of the fact that somebody knowingly and willingly invited a feral animal into the house to take off her clothes. That the feral animal acted wild and started biting people should really not come as a surprise...

Actually, when you said “Could they have easily avoided it altogether by not associating with such lowlifes? Easily.” it sounded like you put the blame on them.

Now run along, have a few more six packs, pass out and quit pestering me.

Well, I'm not, nor ever have disputed that they all deserved exoneration from the criminal charges. But of the three arrested and charged, one hired the strippers and the other two accepted invitations to the *performance*. All perfectly legal mind you, but if you're one of those folks who can not distinguish between "legal" behavior and "moral/ethical," behavior, then I suppose it's easy to understand how you hold them entirely blameless. Perhaps avoiding hiring strippers or turning down an invitation to a stripper party may be difficult for you, but I suspect for many people, either are easily avoided situations.
