I don’t think Carter ever commanded a nuke boat. While he may have served on one, his short time in the Navy probably wouldn’t have let him rise to command rank. (I’ll have to look it up to confirm that. I could be mistaken.)

I could be wrong. My wife reminds me of that on a daily basis. LOL! Of course I refuse to accept that. If he didn’t command a nuke, he commanded the football which is maybe even scarier. Mainly because he’d probably never use it.

Jimmy Carter never served on a nuclear sub. He first served on th USS Pomfret ((SS-391), and was later the XO on the SSK-1. Later he was training the crew of the USS Seawolf on the power plant, but never served on board. He left the navy after the training assignment.
