and a pretty sweet Minority Report-esque dynamic infographic (infomotion?), to boot. The point? The world today has more than its share of problems, but we can all be thankful it isnt the world of 200 years ago.
The charming Swede is Hans Roslingphysician, statistician, and host of BBC 4′s The Joy of Stats. Pretty much everything about this video makes me happy, not least of all that the Brits have a TV program celebrating statistics itself.
He assumes colonization suppressed development of countries such as India, etc.
And Africa. Just along for the ride on the coattails of the rest of the world.
Hans lost all credibility with me when he backed the IPCC “data” on globull warming. If that vouches for his analytical skills he is either an idiot or on the take.
Specifically:
He commends the IPCC AR5 report as being “as good as science can do”. He says the difficulties of communicating the uncertainties in climate science are far greater than for other science communication problems that he has been involved in professionally, such as smoking and cancer. He goes as far to say that, in this regard, climate science will be a model for other sciences. That’s high praise indeed from one of the world’s expert science communicators.

Interesting
India and China accounted for over 80% of the world’s GDP for much of history. Purely based on economic numbers, British control weakened the Indian economy and Britain specifically introduced policies to curtail manufacturing in India, preferring instead that India imported clothing from Manchester.
Much of Indian industry today is thanks to private entrepreneurship and Russian and American assistance during post-Independence years.
The author’s data and graphs support the above.
But the greenie Gorebalists say this is unsustainable even though it is the 200 year trend. They want the vast majority to return to the 200 year ago lower left while they alone occupy the upper right.
