Opium poppy cultivation in Afghanistan reached a sobering record high in 2013, said the UNODC. According to the 2013 Afghanistan Opium Survey, cultivation amounted to some 209,000 hectares, outstripping the earlier record in 2007 of 193,000 hectares, and representing a 36 per cent increase over 2012.

Mission accomplished. Our military has been abused to make money for druglords and banks and even governments and WE have paid a heavy price for their comfort. Damn them all.
Where is the market?
Kids are into cocaine, pot, X, and other trips. I hear that there are no “gateway drugs”.
The music of today isn’t heroin chic worthy.
Beat me too it! I was just about to send you a “no surprise to you” ping.
“Where is the market?”
Apparently that’s a good question. I found an article on BBC from 2008 that said Afghanistan was producing more than twice the known demand back then.
Maybe California and Colorado can open medicinal/holistic heroin boutiques.
Take the profit motive out of it.
Heroin use is on the rise in the US...primarily in the suburbs, of all places.
People got hooked on the Oxy pills...put those have become more expensive. Not only has there been a clamp down on doctors who improperly prescribe them, but a gel has been added to the pills to make them impossible to crush and snort.
So the heroin is much cheaper, and gives a much quicker high than swallowing pills.
If you google any major city and add ‘heroin deaths’, you will likely see a story about a rising number of fatal overdoses.
A couple of friends of mine that were in Iraq said the radical muslims that were fighting were into heroin.
A lot is probably going to Syria.
War on drugs here. War to produce drugs around the world.
Heroin’s big these days. The failure to launch crowd, having no life, is into being kind of dead.
A lot is going to Russia and Europe and the ME is saturated with it. Don’t get much news out of Asia, but I would be willing to bet they are saturated with it as well...even though the penalties are steep.
But nobody listens...and if they do, they tell me I’m crazy. Goes with the territory, I guess.
Oddly enough, a lot of the market for that opium and heroin is in Iran. One in four males there have tried an opiate and one in eight is an active addict. Also Russia has a bad heroin problem. The vast majority of that opium is not finding its way to the US, it stays in Eurasia.
I wonder if some of these radical muslim groups may be stockpiling for another round of “arab spring” uprisings or possible war with Israel.
I take we've taught the Afghans modern farming techniques?
CIA’s gotta make money somehow.
Did I say CIA? I meant Shadow Government.
Did I say Shadow Government? I meant Soros and friends.
Yes, just as the Vietnam War was a fight over the poppy fields there so, too, was the war in Afghanistan. Before we went in there the Taliban had a dispute with the CIA and then cut them off of the supply and outlawed the growing of poppy.
Looks like the CIA is making quite a bit of money these days.
Opium is the religion of the people...
