O’Neal Testifies He Talks To Warhol Portrait Of Farrah Fawcett
AP) ^ | December 11, 2013 5:36 PM

The University of Texas at Austin is suing O’Neal to try to gain possession of the portrait. Fawcett left all her artwork to the school and it claims O’Neal improperly took it from her condo days after her death.

The Oscar-nominated actor took the stand for the second time in the trial to assert his ownership of the portrait and why it’s important for him to keep it.

“I talk to it,” O’Neal said. “I talk to her. It’s her presence. Her presence in my life. In her son’s life.”

Plus, it’s worth a lot of dough. If I had a picture that was worth a lot of dough, I’d probably talk to it too. I’d say things like “wonder when I should sell you?”

And John Wooden wrote a letter to his deceased wife every day. No worse than talking to a painting. At least neither of them talked to the mummified remains kept in the upstairs bedroom.

Hey, well call me a hard hearted Hannah, but Ryan O’Neal could hang a $5 poster of Farrah in that red bathing suit if he needs to talk to her. He is “talking” to a $10 million dollar art work that Farrah willed to the university, that Ryan took from her house after her death, and Farrah left him NOTHING in her will. Granted the University is greedy, greedy, greedy, but I think Farrah’s wishes were the painting was one of a set of two, and that both were willed to the University, with the entirety of her other art works, and the University should get all her paintings in accordance with her final wishes. However, the court will now settle this dispute.

>> It is a wonderful likeness and it has a “lifelike” quality that I could see as being compelling as a source of comfort.

Lifelike? Was that sarcasm? If I saw THAT green eyed red lipped thing hovering over MY crib, I’d be having bed wetting nightmares well into my teen years.

No — it is weird for sure but there is some life in the eyes that makes it look like a one-off of life.

Maybe that is just me. Or maybe the quality Warhol brought...?

Some people go and talk to gravestones.

I've done that, with my dad. In two locations. The first, where he was buried in the town we lived in at the time, and later, when my mom had him moved to his hometown in his family's plot. She's now there with him.

Visiting a grave seems normal, but talking to a painting, I don't know. Of course, I'm talking about loss of parents, which again is 'normal', where loss of a wife or husband or 'life partner', or child for that matter, is not.

So one hangs on to whatever one has.

I saw a documentary on Ryan and Farrah during her last months, and he was there every minute he could be.

Just called Farrah's Story.

But taking the gravestone home to talk to would be a problem.

It does not belong to him.

I don’t get why people would donate large amounts to these wealthy universities.

The lines are drawn (on this thread): you are either for individuals, or you are for institutions.

True, I get that. He should be able to create some kind of endowment for the arts dept that allows him to keep the one work on loan of something.
