13 Things Mentally Strong People Don’t Do
LifeHack ^ | 11/13/2013 | Amy Morin

Posted on 12/12/2013 1:06:26 PM PST by iowamark

Mentally strong people have healthy habits. They manage their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors in ways that set them up for success in life. Check out these things that mentally strong people don’t do so that you too can become more mentally strong.

1. They Don’t Waste Time Feeling Sorry for Themselves

Mentally strong people don’t sit around feeling sorry about their circumstances or how others have treated them. Instead, they take responsibility for their role in life and understand that life isn’t always easy or fair.

2. They Don’t Give Away Their Power

They don’t allow others to control them, and they don’t give someone else power over them. They don’t say things like, “My boss makes me feel bad,” because they understand that they are in control over their own emotions and they have a choice in how they respond.

3. They Don’t Shy Away from Change

Mentally strong people don’t try to avoid change. Instead, they welcome positive change and are willing to be flexible. They understand that change is inevitable and believe in their abilities to adapt.

4. They Don’t Waste Energy on Things They Can’t Control

You won’t hear a mentally strong person complaining over lost luggage or traffic jams. Instead, they focus on what they can control in their lives. They recognize that sometimes, the only thing they can control is their attitude.

5. They Don’t Worry About Pleasing Everyone

Mentally strong people recognize that they don’t need to please everyone all the time. They’re not afraid to say no or speak up when necessary. They strive to be kind and fair, but can handle other people being upset if they didn’t make them happy.

6. They Don’t Fear Taking Calculated Risks

They don’t take reckless or foolish risks, but don’t mind taking calculated risks. Mentally strong people spend time weighing the risks and benefits before making a big decision, and they’re fully informed of the potential downsides before they take action.

7. They Don’t Dwell on the Past

Mentally strong people don’t waste time dwelling on the past and wishing things could be different. They acknowledge their past and can say what they’ve learned from it. However, they don’t constantly relive bad experiences or fantasize about the glory days. Instead, they live for the present and plan for the future.

8. They Don’t Make the Same Mistakes Over and Over

Mentally strong people accept responsibility for their behavior and learn from their past mistakes. As a result, they don’t keep repeating those mistakes over and over. Instead, they move on and make better decisions in the future.

9. They Don’t Resent Other People’s Success

Mentally strong people can appreciate and celebrate other people’s success in life. They don’t grow jealous or feel cheated when others surpass them. Instead, they recognize that success comes with hard work, and they are willing to work hard for their own chance at success.

10. They Don’t Give Up After the First Failure

Mentally strong people don’t view failure as a reason to give up. Instead, they use failure as an opportunity to grow and improve. They are willing to keep trying until they get it right.

11. They Don’t Fear Alone Time

Mentally strong people can tolerate being alone and they don’t fear silence. They aren’t afraid to be alone with their thoughts and they can use downtime to be productive. They enjoy their own company and aren’t dependent on others for companionship and entertainment all the time but instead can be happy alone.

12. They Don’t Feel the World Owes Them Anything

Mentally strong people don’t feel entitled to things in life. They weren’t born with a mentality that others would take care of them or that the world must give them something. Instead, they look for opportunities based on their own merits.

13. They Don’t Expect Immediate Results

Whether they are working on improving their health or getting a new business off the ground, mentally strong people don’t expect immediate results. Instead, they apply their skills and time to the best of their ability and understand that real change takes time.

They don’t read lists of what someone else thinks are the hallmarks of being a mentally strong person? ;-P

Most of those are on my list of why I don’t experience stress and enjoy my life. I don’t know if they make me strong, but they way simplify and enhance life.

These can be taken a number of different ways. If you distill it down, you realize that liberalism IS a mental disorder:

1. They Don’t Waste Time Feeling Sorry for Themselves
Victimization is the Democrat calling card of Identity Politics. Get on the plantation or else be eaten by Republican wolves. “Put y’all back in chains!” “War on Women!” “Bedroom police!”...

2. They Don’t Give Away Their Power
Socialism is slavery to the State.

3. They Don’t Shy Away from Change
But my daddy’s daddy voted Democrat and it was good enough for them.

4. They Don’t Waste Energy on Things They Can’t Control
“GLOBAL WARMING! ARRRRGHHHH!” “WHY are people still poor in this world?!!!” “Some nutjob just KILLED innocent people even though weapons were BANNED!!!”

5. They Don’t Worry About Pleasing Everyone
“But WHAT would the United Nations say about us?”

6. They Don’t Fear Taking Calculated Risks
“Personal savings and retirement investments could leave people helpless in their old age. Let Uncle Sam manage your money.”

7. They Don’t Dwell on the Past
“Did you HEAR what happened when people came to ‘America’? They stole land, raped, and plundered!!!”

8. They Don’t Make the Same Mistakes Over and Over
“Ferrandcare, Kennedycare, Hillarycare, Obamacare...”, Jimmy Carter II, the re-election of Barack Obama...

9. They Don’t Resent Other People’s Success
“You didn’t build that!” “White priviledge.””The workers control the means of production.” “All property is theft.”

10. They Don’t Give Up After the First Failure

11. They Don’t Fear Alone Time

12. They Don’t Feel the World Owes Them Anything
Bwahahahahahahaha.

13. They Don’t Expect Immediate Results
“World War II was won in just 4 years!”

Take the opposite of all those and you will have your average liberal.

I would never read a list of 13 anything.

Scares, depresses and nauseates me too much.

9. They Don’t Resent Other People’s Success

Mentally strong people can appreciate and celebrate other people’s success in life. They don’t grow jealous or feel cheated when others surpass them. Instead, they recognize that success comes with hard work, and they are willing to work hard for their own chance at success.

Liberals (Mentally ill people) on the other hand are very resentful of other people's success. And their wealth and riches. As a result, they try to tax and redistribute that wealth.

Some of them are possibly sly attempts at making the sheeple more passive.

4. They Don’t Waste Energy on Things They Can’t Control - You won’t hear a mentally strong person complaining over lost luggage or traffic jams. Instead, they focus on what they can control in their lives. They recognize that sometimes, the only thing they can control is their attitude.

"Accept it, Obama won, you HAVE to pass his agenda."

"We GAVE 'capitalism' a chance, now it is time to move on."

"You cannot cling to religion and guns any longer. It divides people, leads to discrimination against alternative (yet natural) lifestyles, and causes grief for the victims of gun violence."

etc. etc.

If some distrated, inconsiderate road hog is texting while driving, veering from lane to lane, slowing down by 5-10 miles to avoid a collision, etc, I CAN take personal control of my own vehicle to get AROUND the yay-hoo. I can EVEN opt to drive on a different road.

And while I may not be able to "control" some union stooge from losing my luggage, I can opt to change carriers in the future. Also sometimes (but not always) squeaky wheel gets the grease. If you aren't so concerned by it, they may choose to ignore the problem altogether until it "goes away" (e.g., "not my problem..." "when does my shift end...").

Man CANNOT control the weather to great effect.

But that’s the line between wasting time and using time. If you’re stuck in a traffic jam now there’s nothing you can do about it, getting uptight won’t fix it; but you can control the next trip to avoid that congested area in the future, which you might not think to do if you’re too busing getting angry in the jam. It’s not about being passive, it’s about focusing energy where it matters, once you’re in a situation you can’t control ride it out and learn the lessons for when you resume control.

Good job with your reply.

As I went through the list, I came up with a similar line. Those who don’t do these positive actions/thoughts are probably liberals or mental ill.

The fact that I’m still alive says more about my mental strength than 13 of anything else.

Thanks for the post.

I was unjustly fired last week and have been sitting here feeling sorry for myself and very angry.

Not saying it will continue but something to think about.
