Forget it. Nobody cares for reasons and what is right and what is wrong when SHTF. If you think that you have an advantage just because you are good man you are so wrong.
The first thing that completely breaks apart is the concept of good will win or “fairness.” We only have these ideas because of living so far removed from nature.
Nature is brutal and good dead man is still a dead man. You’re gonna find yourself in situations when you wonder why this guy died and why this family vanished. People now hope for system, like epic fight of good vs evil. Not gonna happen.
Everyone’s life is in danger, we are just preparing to make it harder for nature and others to get ours.
And history is written by the winners, so do not trust too much in it. Very rarely are you gonna see the full and true story of survival without make up either because political or commercial reasons.

Ya, it is depressing. I can’t imagine living during what he endured. If the zombie apocalypse occurs, I have the feeling I would not do too well. Civil war ain’t very civil.

Most of us will (and I’m probably in that group).
When Ike came through, I/we was/were completely prepared, had it all, down to a TV that worked and a phone that worked. Had battery fans and dealt with the heat very well as we also had misting battery fans that cooled us very well. We had ice water all through those 5 days. Tasty, hot food. Good coffee.
What I didn't expect, was, my husband went bonkers. He was nervous, moving around all the time, drove around, came back, got in the car again and went to his son's house about 20 miles away to the east which was definitely in the hurricane area just as we were; Ike was a very large/wide hurricane. The son had sent his wife and two sons to Austin. For some reason, that section where he lived still had power while all around them it was out. That meant the son had air conditioning. That is ALL he had. Stores were closed and he had very little bottled water, just what was there before this hit. He figured he would just tough it out - and stay drunk as he is an alcoholic and his temper is very short when he is like that. Since he hadn't prepared, he bought no gas before hand and now drove around looking for something that was open to get water and other items until he was almost out of gas and had to go home. He was then stuck there with no gas. He must have the largest type Ford truck ever built and one must buy a gas station to have enough to fill it up with gas.
Husband came back from son's house and said let's go stay with son. I said that wasn’t a good idea as son (not my son but his) was not reliable and I didn't want to depend on him for anything. Husband insisted and insisted and insisted. I finally said it was fine if he went and I would be fine here. Then, the anger came and he pitched a fit. I did not respond in anger. I was not prepared for how he changed after the hurricane came through and he was not normal.
We had been married for years, worked together and had fun doing it, and he had not done this before - to be so nervous and unsettled and almost frantic and wanted away from the house to somewhere else. That is what gets a lot of people - “This is so bad I'll go somewhere else because it has to be better than here.” And, it seldom is and is the same or worse.
He decided not to go to the son's but I encouraged him to do that if that is what he wanted to do. Husband was someone I did not know.
Now, if we had been in a life or death situation, I would have had a problem. Leaving a perfectly supplied house with almost as many conveniences as you always had, to go where it is worse, ON PURPOSE, shows the person is not thinking right. What would you do about that? Say your wife wanted out of that house or cabin or wherever you were in a real life and death situation, what would you do? What if she had a fit and was screaming a you and demanding you take her somewhere else?
I knew husband wasn't going to be killed if he left, but what would I have done if he could be killed in a SHTF situation and he was still determined to leave?
I have thought about this many times. You think you know your spouse, but you really don't as an emergency has different effects on different people. In an emergency, I have always been calm and have a plan. If it is something for which I have not planned, my mind works fast to determine the best action quickly. I have not panicked as there is always SOMETHING that can be done to help the situation. At 80, with all the emergency situations that have arisen in my life, I have never panicked.
When the weather channel said, and this was earlier this year, a tornado was sitting on top of my town and they didn't know if it was going to drop to the ground and tornados had already dropped down in this area that evening, that “mother” (fill in the blank) was there and auto phone message came from the town to take cover and the weather channel was saying, “Take Cover”!. Tornado plan went into effect that minute. I gathered the items I needed plus a very large cushion that was big enough it filled the downstairs bathroom, the safest place in the house, a backpack was already in there with a battery radio and other items and I picked up the Yorkie, went in there, took my motorcycle helmet out of the cabinet under the sink, put it on, pulled the large cushion on top of us and waited. If we weren't killed but the house fell down, that backpack would keep us alive for three days if we couldn't get out of the bathroom by ourselves. It was automatic for me to do that as I had practiced that before and had done it for real before.
Why a motorcycle helmet? More deaths are caused by head injuries in a tornado than any other reason. Glory be, even Homeland Security on their website says have a helmet for tornados. I was about 75 when I went in Walmart to the motorcycle helmets and tried them until I had one that fit me. Did it look silly for an older woman to be trying on helmets? I didn’t care as it would be MY head in danger and tough cookie if they didn’t have one.
Think about, in a SHTF situation, how to handle a spouse who isn’t thinking right and children who may freak out also and their behavior changes.
I already know what would happen with people who freak out during SHTF.
I just haven’t told them what it is...
I think I actually read this one before. I think it might have been reposted on SHTFplan from SHTFschool.
Whatever the origins, Mr. Selco is right. One thing I’ve come to realize is that people can really suck. And if things go down, most people WILL suck. You will probably be amazed that you got along with anybody, pre-SHTF, if you survive.
If I recall correctly, Selco said in another article that every person who survived the Balkans crisis seemed to have a story where he acted, shall we say, unethically.
Maybe one person killed another one for food. Maybe a starving couple stole food from another family. Maybe somebody shot a dog and ate him.
Whatever the case may have been, let he who is without sin cast the first stone.
I think he is saying we don’t know how people, including ourselves, will react to something like he went thru, but nothing will be “normal”
