Skip to comments.Scott Walker: Republicans should focus on economic issues to take back the Senate
Posted on 12/14/2013 2:33:46 PM PST by AstralisLux
Asked how the GOP could win the Senate in the 2014 elections, Walker explained that Republicans must not be viewed as the 'party of no' as Democrats have tried to brand them. "As they're running for Senate, focus on the two key issues: an economic concern in our country, [and] there are still too many who are not coming through." Walker explained that Reagan's 1980 acceptance speech should be a model for the Republican Party to message for voters. "If you live in poverty, we want to lift you out, he said. We don't want to leave anyone behind. We need to embrace that across the board."
That’s nice but the GOOBs will never take back the Senate without the TEA Party that they threw under the bus last week. They’ll be lucky if they can hold the House in 2014.
That's the Democrat message: "Don't worry. We'll do it for you." Our message should be "If you live in poverty, we want to foster an environment that will enable you to work your way out of it."
Walker’s a big open borders/amnesty guy.
That in itself would kill conservatism and the American experiment once and for all.
Ditch Mitch, in the General if necessary.
Walker’s not really a small-government guy.
The answers are not political.
They need to pound cheap labor Scott Walker and win those Senate seats in Montana and the South.
To win the primaries, conservative Republicans should say that they’re pro-tax cuts, pro-spending cuts, pro-life and anti-illegal alien. After those conservatives win the primaries, they should concentrate on economic issues.
THE economic issue of our time is the obscene expansion of government.
Until that is reversed, the economy will never heal.
You don’t read very well.
I asked you nicely once.
I wont ask again.
Next time to fail to meet our request - nobody will be clicking your link.

If any of these Rats or liberal media lapdogs try to demagogue them with this crap, just tell it to their faces that you're pro-life and pro-traditional marriage, and these are non-negotiable. Then you resume talking about the economy and jobs.
Seriously, it's not hard to do, because this is exactly what the Left's going to do. They're going to accuse Republicans of not paying for some bimbo's birth control pills and protecting a "women's right to choose."
Reject their narrative. Stand strong on social issues, and don't answer hypothetical questions about abortion if a woman was raped. The base will stick with you and those independent voters will like the fact that you've stood strong. Nobody likes wishy-washy politicians.
Well said PhilCollins.
And he's not really not running for president, either.
I think the immigration position works as well in the primary as it does in the general with swing voters.
The immigration position is only a problem for the far left and GOP consultants.
Vitter’s opponent was on the back foot when Vitter ran the Welcome Prize against him.
I think that’s the LIV version Walker’s using. Your version would be for the Likely Voter who thinks and reasons.
Remember what America let Billy Clinton get away with while the economy hummed along.
Isn't that the message they've been using for some time now?
Scott Walker buy a clue. Defunding Obamacrap was all about preserving free market capitalism, ergo the economy.
So Republicans should accept the status and positions that Democrats prefer for them? Scott understands the Republican Party to be division of the Democrat Party, its Designated Opposition wing. You have to do what the boss says.
Spot on, but some are. How much of poverty, slow growth and misery are results of some federal, state or local law that serves some crony at the expense of liberty?
These liberal republicans like to rewrite history.
Good advice all around and voters respect someone with thoughtful values. As to why do Republicans have to run and hide on social issues?
Try nearly a century of government schooling for the electorate.
Once again, humblegunner
you are the only reason I don’t give any money to this site
Yes, my suggestion is what Republicans have been doing for some time. It worked in 2010, so it will work in ‘14.
Economic policy goes hand-in-hand with social policy, you cannot separate the two.
That’s great. Realizing we need to focus on the economy is the first step. Now let’s hear a real plan this time instead of more hope and change.
That is exactly what Todd Akin, Richard Mourdock, Doug Hoffman, George Allen, Alan West, Ken Buck, J.D. Hayworth etc were supporting.
But that was no guarantee of success!
Because I pointed out what was stated by management?
I reckon you've got bigger problems than ME, sweetheart.
Walker has successfully beat the Unions in particular and the RATS in general. You don’t have to love him if you’re not inclined to, but you should recognize he’s a fighter and, more importantly, a WINNER.
I agree that my suggestion is no guarantee of success. Hundreds of candidates, who did that, won, in 2010 & ‘12.
I like Walker, and I do understand where he’s coming from.
But remember that if you destroy the family, Government will takes its’ place.
I’ve come to the belief, that if we don’t get back to God, we’re done.
You must have a hard time finding ANY group to support, if that's your criteria.
Thems fightin words in Obamaville
Another libertarian trying to nudge us into ditching social issues, huh?
Focus on economic issues?
Why? The Ryan-Murry bill solves all economic problems for the next century, according to Boehner and Co.
So, by next November, there won’t be any economic issues.
Shrinking government is not going to heal the economy. The problem with the economy is that we lowered the import tariffs and are now competing against third world and communist labor that costs 10% of our labor. We're off-shoring jobs like crazy and it won't stop simply by shrinking government spending.
We need to raise the import tariffs and put Americans back to work. When the 23% unemployed go back to work that's a 30% increase in the labor force (23%/77%). That will boost annual government revenues and put a really large dent in the deficit. Plus government outlays will fall as safety net payments shrink.
Once people are back to work, we can work on undoing that $700 billion stimulus plan that Obama sold as a one time expenditure but was instantly baked into the budget for future years, so it became recurring.
Looks like he won't post anymore either.
He appears to have done a big ol' faceplant onto some concrete.
> Walker explained that Reagan’s 1980 acceptance speech should be a model for the Republican Party to message for voters. “If you live in poverty, we want to lift you out, he said. We don’t want to leave anyone behind. We need to embrace that across the board.”
You are beyond befuddled if you are calling Walker a liberal. He eviscerated the public unions, balanced the budget and signed concealed carry. I just got my tax bill with a nice tax cut gratis Governor Walker.
We went through hell with him under assault by the leftists. He knows where they are coming from.
I don’t know who is pushing that Walker is in favor of amnesty. He has specifically said he is not.
Do you think Brietbart would let him get away with equivocating on this?
He may not be the fire breathing tax partier that Cruz is, but he’s definitely our guy. Are there are bunch of OFA paid trolls that come here to kneecap every republican leader?
The democrats NEVER say this kind of thing because they know they have to cover lots of different kinds of people to win.
Stupid. Just stupid.
You should see how much smaller Wisconsin public unions are after he decapitated them. The end result - smaller local governments across the state.
Raise tariffs and tariffs will be raised on us in retaliation.
You’ll end up hurting as many businesses as you help, while also hurting all consumers.
He also opposes state immigration laws because he is worried about offending hispanics.
The party of "Yes" got us into this mess.
I want a party of "No."
Preferably "Hell No!"
Attacking unions is a safe political tactic. White Conservatives and black single mothers hate teachers.
Do this and the GOP can go straight to hell.
