Think about it. Universities get to decide how much money to charge their students. Likewise, parents and students decide if they can afford to pay it. It’s a pretty simple proposition. But when the government suddenly makes hundreds of billions of dollars in student loans readily available — under the popular (and voter-friendly) theory that “everyone should go to college” — we see an unintended consequence. We see colleges suddenly motivated to charge more money. A lot more. And so they embark on their own PR campaigns to boost enrollment. They hire ad agencies and publicists and lobbyists and go about the business of persuading people to “invest in their future.” And most importantly, they provide an admissions department to help arrange for an affordable student loan. This is what’s been happening for the last 40 years.
If blame is your thing, there’s plenty to go around. Republicans and Democrats have both allowed a trillion dollars of public money to flow freely between students and colleges with no real accountability for the results. And millions of well-intended parents and guidance counselors are still pushing the idea that a four-year degree is the only viable path to happiness. This in spite of the fact that the vast majority of available jobs no longer require a diploma — they require the willingness to learn a useful skill. And that kind of training does not demand the type of massive borrowing that has put college graduates a trillion dollars in the hole."......(more)
Sarah Adkins "Not to be rude or ungrateful here but Mike, but those jobs are considered "men's jobs". Since I was teenager I've been turned away from those jobs and treated pretty poorly by those looking to hire for such a job. I was more than willing to work my way up. I can MIG weld and arc weld, I've used a ridiculous number of hand tools, and learned mold making and casting. Everywhere you look they only hire men, not women for the jobs you list."
..I've worked with peopl like this...they want the top job on the first day because they went to some school...
If no one will hire you, then hire yourself.

I used to deal with the self entitled type when I was a factory foreman. They assumed that just because they had an engineering degree, they would walk through the factory door and straight to the front office and it just wasn’t going to happen.
The best designer in the place got his engineering degree after working 30 years as a shop rat. After all that time he didn’t need the degree to do the job, he needed the degree to get the pay.
They won’t. They know there is too much money in the Turtleman, Duck Dynasty, Hardcore Pawn demographic.
I don’t know if any other Demographic has grown exponentially on the tv screens like the middle aged middle america white.
Elizabeth Warren, Fauxahontas, got paid over $300,000 for teaching one course at Harvard. If that’s representative, no wonder Harvard costs so much! I’m sure there are people like her at other schools. Yeah, blame Republicans for keeping interest rates at market values.
Don’t blame one-percenters like Warren.

I work in industry. If she is telling the truth about her qualifications, she wouldn’t even have to apply for a job.
Of course, the fact that she’s “used a ridiculous number of hand tools” makes me think that she’s a liar. A real tool-user never considers any number of tools used as “ridiculous”.

And that is exactly what is wrong with the system.
Meritocracy. It’s part of the government-college-human resources complex. You can never get there unless you buy your way in through a useless degree in a subject that has nothing to do with your prospective line of work.
The wealthiest individuals in the US ditched college to persue their own goals, and succeeded. They see this avenue as a potential source of competition, and will do whatever it takes to make sure that doesn’t happen.
This is why most college grads have the equivalent education of a 10th grader from 25 years ago.
Miss Adkins is very wrong. Some of the best weldors I know were women but most women didn’t care for the dirt and grit of many welding jobs.
What matters in most places is passing that welding test and that’s a straight up pass or fail, no in be tweens.
He was the best design engineer in the place because he knew that we had limited time to do various jobs and he didn’t slow us down when he was testing the job himself.
The pure college engineers got in the way and slowed us down. They would bring 5 parts for us to run and those parts would take 20 minutes each when our rate gave us about 20 seconds per part.
With Bob, if he needed some test parts he would just use our station for a few minutes and do it himself or set up a station for himself. Most important was the fact that he asked questions.
And another lie accepted by the LIV: the Republicans want to raise interest rates on student loans. WRONG! The built-in rate hike is part of 0bamacare. It was part of the nationalization of student loans and the increased rate was intended to partially finance 0bamacaare. Not one Republican voted for it.
That has to be 500%, which is bad enough. It is not 500 times the rate of inflation.
You have to get your numbers straight if you want anyone to take you seriously.
