The street plows have been out. The foot of the driveway has an 18" ridge line. I must be at work at 0800.
Frikking spell check pisses me off sometimes. Keeps replacing “snowblow” with “snowplow”.
I WISH I had a snowplow.
Heh, I am refurbishing an old manual push mower, so I can mow my lawn at “off” times.
My wife and I have used a lawn service for years...best money I ever spent!
But Obungle’s Economy is going to make that go the way of the dodo, eventually...
To answer the initial question, “What time is appropriate to begin snow throwing, etc............
The best time is when needed. I live in heavy snow country and believe me, if I need to get out and it requires snow removal in order to do so, that snow blower will be if full operation when/where needed. I some cases it COULD be an emergency.
Look...it’s not like you’re firing up the backpack blower to clear the leaves from around your pool, or running your tractor mower to take an inch off your grass. Those things can wait for the sake of being a “good neighbor.”
You need to clear your driveway so you can take care of your family.
Do what you need to do. Your neighbors would.
Why aren’t you done yet?
Agreed. It isn’t like a lawnmower or a leaf blower. Gotta be done.
Good one- I’ve heard the same story with “tie a snow shovel to the roof of the car and....”
Hire someone else to do it or wait until you get home.
That kind of noise needs to wait until 9:00 A.M.
Rules in MN:
Blow snow with the wind, even if it is to the far side of the driveway.
Clear an area to the windward side of the driveway to allow for drifting to occur without encroaching on the driveway.
Blow snow early and often. Waiting with subsequent sunshine makes for partial melt and refreeze, which means snow turns to ice.
Keep garage doors closed while blowing snow, or it will end up in the garage, no matter which way the wind blows.
Keep the snow blower near the door of the garage so you don’t need to shovel first to get the car out of the way, to get the snowblower out for the rest of the driveway.
Get out before the plow and bow the end of the driveway when it is not compacted. Blow a bit off the street on the left side of the property to reduce the amount of snow the blade pushes onto the driveway apron.
As soon as the plow comes, blow it out, as it will continue to harden and become concrete in a short time.
When you walk back to reposition the snowblower in a way which puts you in the street, look for traffic. Passing plows may not see you and clip you. You will be found in April.
Use sand when the weather is cold, chemicals when above 0 degrees.
Feed the birds.
My neighbor “Mike the fireman” finished snow throwing his drive around 8:30 AM.
I just finished mine about 9:15, took almost 1/2 hour, considering after using the snow thrower, I also push a snow shovel over what I just plowed, looks much neater that way!
What time is appropriate to begin snow throwing (mechanically) on a Sunday morning?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One might assume that people with a noise problem would have handy by the bed: ear plugs and/or muffs.
1:05 eastern...That’s when the first NFL game kicks off.
hehe
What you describe is mostly what is called “space management”, which means to prepare the area for the NEXT snow and drifting, leaving extra space for more piles.
Places like Des Moines don’t get it, so streets and roads, driveways and sidewalks, get narrower and narrower until a complete snow melt.
Use a shovel if the neighbors are Priority #1.
A few years ago, the snow was so high, that when I set my snow blower to shoot it as high as possible, it could not get to the top of the pile, and simply cascaded back into the machine...so it was sort of mobile storage on the side of the snow hill, always in motion, until the snowblower ran out of gas.
A blocked driveway is a safety hazard. You need to remove the hazard now.
I live in a condo in PA, so the sub-contractors plowed the streets last night at midnight, and the shovelers are out now, clearing snow/ice from the driveways and sidewalks. I’ll use Ice-Melt in a little while.
We have a friend that when he retired said he was gonna drive East til he didn’t see a Mexican and that was where he would stay. He wound up in some bohunk town in Arkansas. lol
We are in California if that explains it.
I was shoveling at 5:00 this morning, guy several houses away had already fired up his beast..
My snowblower has headlights so 3 am is completely appropriate.
