Skip to comments.HuffPost Sees Mass Exodus as More Users Reject New Comment System

While theres no way to confirm hard numbers, it seems thousands of users if not more, are leaving the Huffington Post (also known as HuffPost) and its previously robust community because of the newly introduced comment system.
The new system requires people to sign in through Facebook if they want to comment on any of the stories. It also requires Facebook verification, which requires a cell phone number.

Could not have happened to a better website.
Let me get this straight....Facefarque requires you to have a cellphone?
I know I see all these airheads frantically tapping away at their phones 24/7, but geez. I guess they know their audience?
Joining Facebook would be like a Body cavity search in the parking lot as you step from your car before you enter the mall
With a cell phone number, force fed adverts are far more obvious and effective than old style emails. A lot of peeps today literally live their life on the small screen.
Yes avoid social media at all costs. That's where millenials live and you don't want to interrupt their indoctrination by progressives.
But I bet they continue to defend voting without ID to the death!
That will screen out privacy advocates, for sure. Sort of narrows the focus a bit.
They didn’t want to leave any breadcrumbs to track them down when they troll.
turn the lights on and the cockroaches run!
Newsbusters does this too. I quit posting there.
That is funny. Huff Post has paranoid left wingers as its base. Imagine requiring these lunatics to identify themselves before they post. Policy will soon be discontinued.
uh... who here would continue posting if they were traceable by any leftist out there?
I believe that a cell phone number is not required to sign up for Facebook, but they will sometimes require one for verification, primarily (I understand) to detect phony accounts who are suspected of liking for money or whatever.
up until a week ago I was going on HP to basically post headlines of news stories that HP did not (would not) post. It was entertaining for me to see the vitriolic comments posted in response to the mere presentation of FACT.
That was when I could use a phoney email.
I’ll have to get those jollies elsewhere somehow now.
I assume anybody posting on FR is totally known to the regime.
I’d be shocked otherwise.
Several online news sites have converted to Facebook member comments. Can’t think of the last time someone commented in the local rag. Crickets.
Not difficult to set up a bogus FB account.
(It’s great for receiving messages from folks like Palin, Cruz, and Cain, and you can educate millenials at the same time).
Don’t ask me how I know this...
Can I use MySpace?
(Hee-hee! I’m not there either.)
“Soni said about 75 percent of comments are rejected because they contain unpublishable levels of vitriol.
That quote is crap and he knows it. Their legions of censors delete posts from the more conservative of us on a regular basis.
They allow their liberal posters to spew as the please, using catchphrases such as monkey-Bush, Bush-Hitler, Teabagger, ect. If a conservative uses any thing to put their messiah, the man behind the curtain, the Great and Wonderful OZbama (I would be deleted for that), in a bad light you get the boot. Any derivative of Liberal like libnut, libtard, Dimocrap, ect, is booted. Republicants, Repugnicans, all good. Obumble, Odumble, booted.
No matter what spin they put on it, Huff-N-Puff, as I refer to it, is an extremely radical liberal ultra-left leaning site, permeated with a wide range of America haters who live in a universe totally bereft of commonsense.
All in all I love to go there just to confront their unbelievable naivety with facts and proof. It really confuses then and sometimes a head might explode. It's fun.
They sometimes require a "mobile" phone number to send a verification code to. But it doesn't really have to be a mobile number, any real number you have access to will do.
There may have been an attempt st Newsbusters to use facebook for posting but there comments are now Disqus.
What is DisQus (yes I’m a tech troglodyte)
I hope they can kill it off, then they can all invade and kill of Salon and Slate.
You have an ISP? You have no cover.
Old, armed to the teeth, with nothing to lose LOL.
As far as I know, it’s something that won’t load on an smartphone... :)
This way, it's 1968 all over, and they can say "I don't know any one who didn't vote Dim".
PUFFINGTON HOST doesn’t suck much, they also will ban you in an instant if your critical of one of the leftist freaks writing a BS story. Par for the course for the frauds on the left.
However, you MUST have signed up for Obamacare before you can post. That's the reason for the mass exodus..
From there website.
Disqus is a free service that enables great online communities. As the webs most popular discussion system, Disqus is used by millions of websites that cover pretty much any topic imaginable. Our magic is in connecting people to stuff worth talking about.
Thanks. Had never seen it.
Just so there’s no mistake — I love Big Brother.
I have some posters mention doing something similar here on FR. I hope it never happens.
Web sites outsource the commenting function to Disqus.
Similarly, they outsource the login process to Facebook.
“Just so theres no mistake I love Big Brother.”
It comes out that the government is spying on people on FB. Now other sites are requiring FB accounts. All the volunteers need to get in line. The railroad car will be here soon.
Gannett did the same thing with the reional newspaper here. Monday morning, looking to make comments... nope! The newspaper demanded that I create a Facebook account, to read the comments.
Here’s the kicker. My published article showed on the Saturday before that Monday! I could not go see if folks had placed comments at my own published article, without the creation of a Facebook page.
I informed the Features Editor, that this new system, locked me out of my own article. As to her response, I refused the rights to any of my articles, withdrew any future articles that I WAS going to submit, and of course, gave her directions how to get there.
And in the time since, the CIA has admitted, that it was THEY who devised Facebook!!

Our local Gannett newsrag did that a couple of years ago. The kinds of opinion columns and letters to the editor that used to get hundreds of responses in the online forum now get a dozen or so, and those which garnered dozens in the past get a few or none. Says something about FB.
I'm not sure, but I am one! A couple of sites I visit use it and I signed on so long ago I forget why.
“Exodus...movement of blah people...”
