Apparently being a member of one of the greatest groups of all time and one of the richest and most popular people on the planet isn’t enough for Paul McCartney. Now the dude wants a free T-shirt to go with his knighthood and power to shut down Times Square.

As you can see in the above video, the Beatle known as the Cute One back in the day made an impassioned play for a free T-shirt at a Brooklyn Nets game last night. Never mind that he currently ranks No. 21 on the Forbes list of super-rich celebrities or that his recent tour was named one of the Top 20 of the year.

We’re pretty sure McCartney can afford, like, several hundred thousand of these T-shirts. Hell, we’re pretty sure the guy shooting them out of the cannon probably would have just given McCartney one in exchange for an autograph or something.

But people love free s–t. Doesn’t matter if it’s an extra onion ring with your appetizers at the Applebee’s down the street from Dick’s or a Brooklyn Nets T-shirt that probably won’t fit after it’s washed three times. And it doesn’t matter if you’re a working-class dad who wants to see a smile on your little boy’s face or a gazillionaire who hasn’t worn a T-shirt in 40 years. People. Love. Free. S–t.

We’re guessing McCartney wasn’t as enthusiastic when the free hot dogs were fired his way.

Maybe this is all a misunderstanding and that's actually Fred Travalena who probably COULD use a free t-shirt.

Paul let me down by shilling for Obama, but I still am thankful for all the music he wrote for us. It’s clear that Paul likes being with and around people, he would never willingly become a hermit. I understand he wants to enjoy this big beautiful world too. I still worry for his safety when he’s out like that amongst the unwashed and the out of tune. Even the rich a famous can get tired of living a Bubble Boy type of existence.

Even the rich a famous can get tired of living a Bubble Boy type of existence.

It's made Ringo bitter (being a Beatle Bubble Boy). When people ask him "What's it like being a Beatle, he says "what's it like NOT being one?"

I have never been able to figure out what makes Paul McCartney popular. I can't think of a single thing he's recorded that I can listen to.

Back in the day the Beatles had some good stuff now and then, but being a blues and R&R fan I never thought they were really a rock band. After the break up John Lennon's music was often closer to rock than anything McCartney ever came up with. Compare "Instant Karma" to "Silly Love Songs" and it's like two different worlds. It makes me wonder how they ever worked together. But, neither of them came out with anything that made me part with my money after Sgt. Pepper.

After the break up John Lennon's music was often closer to rock than anything McCartney ever came up with.

You picked one release from each of them as an example. "Walls and Bridges" and "Imagine" were watery (except "Whatever Gets You through the Night" and the powerful but ultimately boring "Beef Jerky"). His anthem "Imagine" is now more of a lounge club/lefty staple even as Silly Love Songs stays in the Top 40 pop box it was always meant to be in.

Even the album entitled "Rock'n'Roll" is largely populated with slower covers (the released "Stand by Me") and filler (Ya-Ya). Worst cover album of its type since Bowie's Pin-Ups.

Heck, Harrison's "Thanks for the Pepperoni" has more Rock spirit in it than "Instant Karma", "Mind Games" and "Imagine" put together. George managed to put down the sitar for 10 minutes and got some great studio help.

Paul McCartney never pretended to be Aerosmith. He could write pop (Band on the Run, Listen to What the Man Says), country (Sally G), straight rock (Rock Show,Juniors Farm, Jet, Helen Wheels), opera (Liverpool Oratorio), slow rock (Venus and Mars, Letting Go), and could tinker on piano, guitar and bass.

He is not my favorite, but the man has talent, even with half his brain burnt out from weed.

Also, Paul McCartney won't force us to buy a half dozen Yoko Ono tracks to get his last album.
