A Stone Mountain woman has won half of the second-largest Mega Millions jackpot in U.S. history and has taken the cash option, which after taxes, will be about $120 million, Georgia Lottery President Debbie Alford said Wednesday.
Ira Curry came to the lottery office with the winning ticket of hand-picked numbers, which were a mix of family birthdays and the lucky number 7. She did not appear at the afternoon lottery announcement in Atlanta.
Alford gave a few details about Curry, saying she is married and had her daughter check online for the winning numbers after a radio announcer mentioned 7 was the Mega ball number.

I would be scared to win that much.
“I saw a TV program about a year ago which did feature several people who actually did properly manage their winnings over long periods of time. Many used it to start businesses, or invested wisely, and generally did the right thing.”
My next door neighbor won the lottery 14 years ago. He won 3 million dollars. He chose the lump sum payment, which after taxes came to around 960 thousand dollars as I understand it. He was pissed because he thought that lump sum payment meant that he would get the full 3 million. Still, he put the money to good use renovating and expanding his small house and starting up his own business (a plumber). He seems to be doing very well for himself. The only luxury that he bought, that I know of, is an inground swimming pool in his backyard.
I love her more. A $million$ times more! ;^)

The lotteries offer governmental access, take on big chunks of money, the States' running the lotteries earning hundreds of millions of dollars on lottery schemes and the Federal government on their share of taxes as well.
This all started when it was noticed how much money small times hoods were taking in on their daily numbers game.
And most demonstrative of all was the repealing of the 18th Amendment that criminalized the use of alcoholic beverages ushering in Prohibition. Prohibition was repealed when the Feds realized how much money criminals were raking in an no process for the government to share in on it.
I think I would have a heart attack if the numbers ever all matched mine.

Alabama Man Sues Waitress Over Lottery Ticket

MOBILE, Alabama – Dec. 11, 2000 -- As reported by Alabama Mobile Register:
``Edward Seward, who once passed out Florida Lotto tickets to Grand Bay Waffle House workers, is suing the former waitress who claimed a $10 million jackpot after a year of court battles.
``In a complaint filed late Friday in Mobile County Circuit Court, Seward contends that lottery winner Tonda Dickerson committed fraud by accepting a lottery ticket from him with the understanding that she would share the winnings with her co-workers.
``Her ticket won the jackpot, and she kept all of the winnings to herself.
``…Seward never would have given Dickerson a ticket if he'd known she wouldn't share the jackpot, his attorney, Stephen Clements, said Friday.
``…Seward, a regular customer at the restaurant, handed out Lotto tickets to Dickerson and four other workers there days before the March 6, 1999, drawing of Florida's state-run lottery game. Each ticket contained five sets of numbers or quick-pics, which means the tickets cost $5 each.
``Dickerson held a ticket that contained the winning numbers.
``When she refused to share the winnings with her four co-workers, Clements helped them file a lawsuit claiming she was obligated by a verbal agreement to share the jackpot.
``Seward testified on behalf of the foursome during the trial, saying there was a deal to share the money. All he expected from the bonanza, Seward said, was a new pickup truck…"

My thoughts exactly. The enormity of it would be overwhelming to me. I would undoubtedly give away all but $5 million or so and live securely and comfortably.
There were 2 winning tickets, she gets half, half of that is taxes. I think I would take the lump sum personally.
Both amounts seem low. The before taxes payout is usually about half of the face amount. It’s based on present future value.
GA has a state income tax I believe. In that case $173 million might be close. If I won it in TN (I don’t waste money on the lottery) my after taxes one time cash would be closer to $195 million.
Won 648 MILLION BUT took home 120 MILLION...
WHO stole the rest of the money?....
YES...... it was stolen.. purloined.. swiped... finagled.. ROBBED..
WHO DID IT?...

To say it was not stolen is to be delusional... a bit NUTZ..
WHO RAPED THE COOKIE JAR?... Sodomized the loot?... ABUSED the wind-fall?..
Could Uncle Sam be the “stealer”?.... -or- Aunt State givernment?..
Americans seem to have an abusive Fatherland..
Still, I wouldn't be unhappy if I was holding the OTHER winning ticket.
