The days get longer from here!

Only four days off from my wife and I - Oh the pleasures of those long nights.

It took me a few years to believe the days will get brighter from now on. Winter seems so dark and depressing after Christmas / New Years.

Because of peculiarities of the Earths inclination and orbit, the earliest sunset is not the day of the solstice.

In the northern hemisphere, the earliest sunset actually occurs on or very near December tenth.

Sunrise however, still gets later, until about January first.

If too many people live up here, the weight of them will eventually cause the earth to wobble.

Not to worry. Another of God's many loving provisions is our unique moon, which stabilizes the earth.

Don't get lost in the woods, and merry Christmas!

I love light.

Always keep the lights on at night. Love moonlight. Haven't heard the horned owl yet. They nested nearby last year and would calm the silence after midnight and before dawn.

Maybe some day I will live on the other side of the time zone, for an extra hour of light in the evening. Even better: dusk at 10:00 pm with the soft tintinabulation of a chapel's evensong.

Now that that’s over with we can celebrate Christmas!!

Right now, a fire truck from the local volunteer fire department is driving through my neighborhood with a Santa on the back waving to all the kids. The siren is going, and they're blowing the horn.

I hope all the nasty atheists' heads are exploding!

Merry Christmas!

I used to work at Prudhoe Bay which is 70* N. latitude.

The Sun set around Thanksgiving and did not clear the horizon again until around Jan 25th.

The Full Moons of December and January circled in the sky without setting. Now THAT was weird!

Thank God. I hate it getting dark at 5 in the afternoon. Depressing.

I don’t mind 100F so much when the afternoon lasts until around 9:00.

Never heard of this one before:

Brumalia
\brü-’mā-lē-ə\ n : a pagan festival held at the winter solstice from which some features of the celebration of Christmas seem to have originated.

The celebration of Brumalia in Byzantium was marked by much dancing and carousing.
